We ordered a sofa from www.thomaslloyd.co.uk and it was slightly too wide to go through the front door. The delivery man had a screwdriver and he took the front door off it's hinges and then screwed it back on when they'd got the sofa in!

our leather chesterfield suite is from thomas lloyds. 3+2+1.
had it ten yrs now and still looks great. very good quality and cheaper the the high st retailers.
    highly recommended.
    Get some gorm.

DFS are absolute c**p. I bought one 10 years ago, and within 3 months the bottom frame sagged in the middle. There was also a staple sticking out at the top, which my son cut his hand on. I'de never go to them again.

shops like DFS like to pretend that their product is far better than the average and therefore charge a premium.
in fact most of their products are made in much same factories as any other soft furniture retailer.
    ie
    most of it, is dire.

Where does everyone on here consider to be the best place to buy sofas? And remember we need it to be money saving but quality too....

I don't think that DFS pretend to be a "quality" supplier, looking at their TV ads, far from it. Most of their stuff is far cheaper than from a mainstream store and they push that point. It's like supermarket strawberries - always sold at "half price" !

I bought a leather sofa and an armchair from DFS some years back. It was excellent value for money, it was delivered on time, it is well made and is still in excellent condition - good for a few years yet !

    I also use BT............
    and Eon....................
    and British Airways............
    and Nationwide................
    and Barclaycard.............
    and Argos.................
    and..................
    and..................
    Oh - and Sky !

I must be doing something wrong - I have no problems with any of them !!

    excellent value for money,

Isn't that the point , they are cheap , made down to a price.
moonrakerz got a sofa that has served him ( her  ) well.

Their must be many like him , but we only hear the horror stories .

Every time a product is discussed , wether its a sofa /tv/boiler/carpet etc etc
we always hear the cry ... go to local small independent.
well in this area , small independents are mega expensive .
So its a matter of trudging around the chains .

1st stop is ( I have no say in it , I just drive the car :D) John Lewis
Then its Furniture Village /Currys/ Carpet right etc etc

the only advice I can give to the OP , feel the weight of the sofa
If you can lift/move its made of something really light and will not last as long as something more substantial.

    Yup...what's said here.....^^^^^^^^

We bought a DFS sofa, mainly becasue we couldn't find what we wanted anywhere else.

It was delivered on time, the quality is what we'd expect for the price we paid (actually pleasantly surprised).

I'ts a budget leather sofa and does exactly what it's meant to.

My parents on the other hand spent nearly £5K on a brand sofa from an established must have brand and it's actualy no better than our DFS one (their words not mine).

I don't shop in Argos though, prefer Virgin to British Airways but otherwise I stock to the main brands.

Mother in law swears by John Lewis to the exclusion of every other shopping experience. I like JL but they aren;t the be all and end all.

where should i look to get a sofa then? i have 3 boisterous kids and a substantial OH and i'm not too skinny myself and want one that won't fall down!
Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession :o:o
  • i have a sofa suite from DFS and don't know why some people are so arsey/snobbish about them, my suite is 4 yrs old and apart from some cat scratches which could happen to even the most expensive suite, it is still in excellent condition.

The suite included a sofabed, was not dismantleable, and fitted through my living room window easily (it is a big window though, and opens fully)

personally i would expect anyone selling and delivering a sofa to be able to get it through a standard door.
