Which Mobile broadband?

  • My Review of T-Mobile Mobile Broadband

    - The speed is extremely slow. The advertised speed was 1Mbps but the fatest I reached was 0.1Mbps (100Kbps) and the average was speed was 0.01Mbps (10Kbps). Regardless of location. It took a matter of minutes to load a page. A T-Mobile rep. told me he had seldom heard of anyone going above 0.2Mbps (200Kbps)

    - Carphone Warehouse advised me I would have good coverage at my address. They will not tell you that no coverage is guarenteed at any location.

    - T-Mobile will not terminate your contract if the device stops working completely.

    - T-Mobile will take months doing tests on the device and even when they cannot diagnose or repair the problem they will continue to charge you for the service.

-T-Mobile will never call you back when they promise. They will pass you from one person to another withought explaining your circumstances. They do not care whether you recive a satisfactory service or not and only care that you pay the bill.

    - In my experience, T-Mobile representatives are trained to use delay tactics to make frustrate you into submission where they cannot resolve your problem.

    - If you stop paying for the Broadband after it has stopped working and you also have a T-Mobile phone they will disconnect your phone, regardless of whether you have paid the phone account. They will continue to charge you for your phone and broadband whilst it is disconnected. They will then refer to baliffs

Well... in the end I went for the 12 Gb over 12 months for £79.99 from PC on 3. I've had it for about 2 weeks now. Thanks for all the advice.

So far it's never been out of the greater London area. After 2 weeks usage it's only been unusable in one location and in some places I've been really impressed with the speed, for webbrowsing being almost indistinguishable from ADSL. It performs badly on trains with connections frequently dropped. I'm not so comfortable using a laptop on a suburban train anyway.

The ZTE dongle does get rather hot - I wonder how long it will last, but despite that my laptop battery does hold up well.

    A few points:

    1) On plugging in, it does take a long time (30 secs or so) for the modem to fire up, get the software loaded and connect. I suppose that's unavoidable.
    2) The 3 website never shows my available allowance dropping. Always says I have 12Gb left. That can't be right. There doesn't seem to be anyway of checking my day-by-day usage as it reports no usage outside of my allowance.
    3) A couple of times, the "3Connect" software has shown me as connected to Orange. I wonder if this is a software error or whether 3 has some kind of roaming agreement with 3. I've seen this kind of internal roaming in other countries, but never in the UK.

I'm glad I didn't get embroiled in a contract. Assuming it continues to work, the 12Gb over 12 months suits me more than a monthly contact. This is because I'm often out of the UK for lengthy periods.
  • I am needing mobile broadband for the next month and i was looking at a 30 day dongle plan with orange....

So if i take the 30 day dongle plan out i need to give 30 days notice to cancel it so if i took it out today and gave my notice today it would be valid for 30 days. It would be 29.99 for dongle plus 14.68 for 3gb, plus 3.99 delivery.

On quidco it says £40 cashback with every 30 day dongle deal. Does anyone know if this could work or is there a minimum period on the 30 day plans?

This would be about £50 minus £40 cashback= £10. Would this work?

If not does any one know of any better plans if i only need it for a month?

    TIA

I was wondering the exact same thing today, however, having never used Quidco I'm unsure. Does anybody have an answer to this?
