I listen to my ipod through the stereo using a simple lead that has a jack to plug into the ipods headphone socket and two phono connectors (red and white) on the other end. Remeber to turn up the volume on the ipod. Shouldn't cost you more than a couple of quid, especially on eBay.
You can buy line out adapters that plug into the bottom dock of the ipod or Apple's iPod dock has a line out connector but personally I think your paying extra for something the cheap cable can do just as well.0 -
as far as the mini is concerned a great price but for £4 more you can get a micro zen, 6gb and fm radio and not restriced to using itunes

It's a 4th Gen. There were effectively two 4th Gen iPods, the standard non-colour one, and the colour (was called the iPod Photo back then) version.
It's the iPod Photo (colour) version that is £70.
Differences between it and a 5th Gen:
- It's around £100 cheaper, but has 10gb less capacity.
- 5th Gen has Video playback capabilites, 4th Gen doesn't.
- 5th Gen is quite a bit slimmer.
- Battery life, although that depends on which 5th Gen. The 60gb 5th Gen has a 20 hour battery life, whereas the 30gb 5th Gen has about the same as a 20gb 4th Gen.
I'd have liked a 5th Gen, but for £70 you can't go wrong with a 4th Gen. Plus I can knock it about a bit more without worrying so much.
I plan on installing Rockbox on my 4th Gen."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

Open source firmware. It's has various ports, for the iPod, iRiver products, iAudio products etc...
Basically adds a load of functionality/support in comparison to the standard iPod firmware. The only downside is that it's not yet built for performance, so battery life is reduced a few hours.
I've got a lot of my music collection in Ogg Vorbis (free open source codec like mp3 but generally better in terms of music quality and it's also completely free) which Apple won't support. Installing Rockbox however will give me Ogg support. Plus it removes the need for iTunes, you can just drag 'n' drop files via Windows Explorer. Could even play Doom on my iPod (bit ott)."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
Thanks to OP and others...ordered one just now0

I have seen ipods on the refurb store before where some actually say 'photo' whereas others like this one say 'with colour display'. Therefore I am not sure if this was a photo one or not. I checked on Amazon and found an Apple Ipod 20GB which has the part no MA079B/A. The description there is for the photo version but I noticed that when I added the one on the Apple store it shows a part no of FA079 in the basket. Like abomb1969 I can't find this anywhere.
Can anyone definitely confirm one way or the other?
Cheers
Dan
