Its a news article with no facts to back up the story. I'm surprised though that Tesco haven't release an official statement, after all its quite easy to make some-one a scapegoat for plans that could well have been happening anyway. Either way it appears to have backfired on Tesco as some of its most loyal customers are going elsewhere.
I did like this bit of the article as it does name the quoter directly, and backs up comments I've read from other posters (comments that I had actually discarded as having no effect, so apologies to them).

hi lizzie,
i like this quote, and the named quoter is .....martin lewis.:D he says we are not frauds!
Since 2007 the ISP has been in discussion with retailers about doing more to tackle coupon malredemption and has said the practice is potentially fraudulent.
However in response Lewis dismissed the view consumers were committing fraud and said it was an issue between retailers and brands.
"You need to differentiate between false and fraudulent redemption and business-to-business on how coupons are used.
"If someone is passing off coupons and lying about it then that is fraud but from the consumers perception if I were to write a 50p-off coupon and take it to Tesco and tell them what I'd done, then it's Tesco's choice whether to give the discount or not."
Lewis said it was not the intention to hit brands and said the ISP needed to deal with retailers over the problem.
However Lewis did concede that he would be happy to run a comment on MoneySavingExpert from the ISP detailing how much malredemption costed brands and let the consumers decide for themselves.

I have no issue with the legality of how coupons can be legimately used and I have stated so before. I have only commented that some useage is greedy though not illegal (point being for a scheme to stay alive Tesco would have to balance the books on actual product sales v coupons).
The point of the post was that some manufacturers have not produced coupons and could well do so now (due to their own interpretation of what they see as fair useage of their offers).0 -
I think you took my post out of context, apologies if it misled you.

no, it didn't mislead me thank you. just thought you would like the post as it was from a named source, and of course the fact it states we are not frauds....for all those who posted otherwise.
i also agree on the product sales v coupons, we do disscuss this on our thread and try to inform all newbies. but........given the fact it was given to the masses, it was inevitable misuse would follow. some people just want short term gain. it worked well for many years. as for the manufacturers holding back, lets see if they release any new couponsi think the quote fromthe isp site is also true, backed by name or not.

I do see the point numerous people are making on the above, personally I see there are far more avenues than one. The only people who really know what the source was, are the initial perpretators of the 3 store scam (not nationwide bugs me there too).
On a lighter note, I wonder how many in those 3 stores also took clubcard points.0 -
i have to sya to all those that are soley blaming martin lewis for this need to get a life and excuse me being blunt sod off
if anyones to blame we all are tescos the press us as consumers yes we all know there was a loophole and it looks like unfortunatley on the first of october was widely abused and i could totatly understand tescos move after that
martin gave out information which he believed could help save us some money he didnt tell us to take pedigree chum vouchers and by an xbox or a tele with it and those clowns that did should be prosecuted because that is gaining products by deceptionReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0 -
Kudos to Martin, although you might want to change "BLAME" to "THANK" and "coupon policy" to "outright thievery" depending on where your moral compass is pointing.
Well if you look at the GMTV video it was ML that said it was OK to do "outright thievery" (your words) by printing the vouchers from the GMTV site and taking them to the supermarket but not to use the self scanners.
Can`t say I agree with how hnscott expressed him/herself0
