they are probably selling you the info that you buy an orange PAYG sim, register it , then ask them to unlock the phone after putting £20 credit on the sim card....not sure that this ACTUALLY works though

What do they do to lock your phone. I got disconnected for non-payment due to excessively high charges for Internet connection because the package was misrepresented to me and is at present the subject of a small claims court procedure.
The phone is a Nokia 6680 with Orange. I am now considering puchasing a Pay As You Go sim card from Orange to get the phone working. Any ideas if this will work. The card is £1. Someone suggested trying another Orange sim card in the phone first but the only other person I know on the same network with the same sim card is concerned that it may affect his sim card. Any advice please.

it will not harm your friends sim card to try, it is locked to Orange so ANY orange sim card will work in that phone (unless they have blocked the phone as well, don't think they would though)

It's a new phone on the Virgin Website, not that different to the 1101, which can be unlocked, so i'm guessing this can be done by code, before i think about buying it?
