Luc, it's Somewhere Towards the End by Diana Athill. I just don't identify at all with a patronising middle class old woman, some of what she's saying is really getting my back up. Like going on about how poor she is, then saying about spending a week in a health spa to lose a couple of stone (while she's only working part time), or hiring a firm to do the gardening - she can only afford it once a week poor woman! And all the references to obscure artists/writers, laughing at people (like me) who've never heard of them.... at least I'll have something to say at the group this month!

It's a sign of really good writing of the character is affecting you like that. It is difficult to read something when you don't empathise with the main character though.

How's the italian going?

It's biography though, so it's just the person I don't like! Not that I'm judgemental or anything....

Italian I had to miss this week cos of my mad dash to Scarborough, apparantly I missed loads but it was only the second week so I should be able to catch up. Got my stuff through for my next OU course, I'm going to go to the tutorials this time. I worry about them and get stressed, but if I'm going to do a masters then I have to get over that. It's 'Living Political Ideas' so should be lots to get my teeth into!

Oh - that's not so good. It is interesting to see how these people think though.

Shame about the italian, do you know what topics you missed? You might be able to get free material off the net to help you catch up? Won't help with the speaking side of it but at least you'll have the vocab.

I find with going to new thingsits hardest to do the first couple but once you know a couple faces it gets easier.

You shouldn't be embarrassed though, it's not your fault, it's him who'se done it deliberately. I'm guessing it must have been quite a personal item, and I'm really sorry if I'm speaking out of turn here, but if you're living with someone surely you should be close enough not to get embarrassed about anything? Your relationship should be beyond that. It's just another alarm bell that's ringing about you and him, and there's been a few lately. Sorry if that's offensive, I'm not sure I'm making my point very well.

Luc, ex went so I'll ask him if I can borrow his notes so that I'm up to speed by thursday, the amount of favours I've done him lately he really owes me that!
