I hate to tell you this but most people are expected to do more in their job for the same or less money. The only difference is that postmen as well as a lot of people in the public sector have had an easy ride up to now. I have worked in the public sector most of my working life and slowly I have been expected to do much more work for the same money. You either accept it and get on with your job or quit and just hope you can find a new one

well this is my only job in the public sector so i think ive got a fairly rounded view of working life.
the fact is its a job not a vocation, things were too easy(ive posted this before) however we are at the other end of the spectrum.
i work(or should be) in a 40 hour a week job,its not the type of job where i expect to have to work beyond that to complete the basic duty.
the odd time is fine but not every day.
  • Lots of moaning for people that do have jobs, I suspect you need to modernise to keep going, your losing the support of the public, loads of us are facing job loses, reduction in pay and are working in extremely poor conditions with absolute tyrants as bosses, Royal Mail seem to treat you all well, by comparison.

    yawn the old modernisation line
so what form does this take?
i work in an office which has done ALL of RM's changes/plans/modernisation
in RM speak thats 'office savings'

so we have had the software redesigned walks(no union agreements)
using vans with 2 in a van, park & loop (no union agreement
staffing levels cut further on top of set losses
and you know what,it doesnt work. the duties are too long, the y are not properly implemented or staffed
the staff are told on a daily basis that their jobs easy and 'mails down'
staff are bullied and harassed over completing duties in their own time without overtime.
same goes for managers trying to get staff to use their own cars as they dont have enough vans to cover duties etc etc

so exactly what is this modernisation you are telling me i need to do?
  • Quite frankly you appear to be stuck in the mud, times are a changing get the sooner you accept that the better, you may yawn at the commnet made but many of us are sick of the disruption it causes, when these strikes happen, small businesses can sink literally whilst waiting for cheques and orders, and its a turn off for future business, it saddens me this apparent learnt behaviour.

thank you I've learned plenty in life.
however you have avoided my question and yet again made a statement to me.
how am i stuck in the mud? have you read my post?
you tell me times are changing and i must modernise even though as an office(as in the whole office covering 4 postcode areas) we have done everything RM have requested against union advice

FYI my office has not had any strikes either, however will be out for the forthcoming nationals
  • Good Luck to you, lets hope the forthcoming nationals leave you with a business to return to. God can't you tell Christmas is coming.

I know of one large private sector company whose employees in one office came into work one day to find all the desks and chairs gone and they were told they would be working from home from now on. Those who didn't like it were given the option of being made redundant.
    Now that is imposing changes.
