Hello everyone. I need any help I can get from you guys. I am seriously considering buying a flat in Gloucester (one of few places I can afford a place to buy) and need any info I can get from people that either currently live in Gloucester (or within 5 miles or so) or have done so in the past. I have never lived anywhere near this area so have no clue whatsoever about life in the West part of England.:confused:

If you can help out about possible best areas of the town to consider regarding safety and amenities, I would greatly appreciate. Cheers guys.:beer: Hope to have some good info from you.:)

    Seems a strange move. So you are moving from the South East to Gloucester because thats the only place you can afford a flat? Gloucester isn't particulary cheap place so I don't see why this situation has occured.

    What do you want out of a City?

    Hi mrstinchcombe. I will be buying a place without a mortgage, I should have mentioned this earlier, sorry. I have been saving up for a long time to buy cash. Gloucester seems to have a lot of flats/houses up to the 100,000 limit even in the city centre. My job travels with me so no problems there.

    My requirements are pretty simple ( or so I think :) ):

    * South of England location - very flexible
    * Medium - large town/city
    * 1 Bed - 2 Bed would be excellent
    * Must be safe
    * Basic amenities ( supermarkets, shops e.t.c)

    Thats it basically. Appreciate feedback from anyone. :)

    Hi I have lived in Gloucester forever!!!

    We have the new Quays development which has flats and apartments nearby.
    There are all of the main supermarkets in Gloucester.
    Schools are good.
    I always feel safe, although there is the usual crimes going on like most towns.
    Lots of new developments going on in the county too.
    If you know specific areas you might be intrested in then I am happy to enlighten you further.

    All the best

    Gloucester centre is rough. Much better to be in the smaller villages around it. Alternatively there is an area called Quedgely that is okay. Cheltenham is near by and that is better (although there are some poor areas). Stroud is also near by and is deemed a 'better' area than Gloucester.

    Personally i would not move to gloucester. i think the place is a dive. Couple of nice bits surrounded by crap. buy well and you might be fine, buy poorly and you will have serious drug abusers on your doorstep. My sister moved away from gloucester because she was sick of the primary aged children finding dirty needles in their school playground. nice.

    Why not live outside of the city, gloucesterSHIRE is lovely if you are into peace and quiet.

    Personally I would rather scoop my eyeballs out than live in Gloucester, it's awful (sorry Gloucester folk!).

    If it were me, I'd look up the road in Stroud, Nailsworth and surrounding villages.

    Can I ask why you have a preference for a property in the south? There are lovely spots across the UK in the north, Wales and Scotland, both urban and rural that come within your price range and that have good transport links and employment opportunities.

    I moved from the south-east to Scotland and see my family and friends almost as often as I did before, earn a similar income and enjoy much better amenities and quality of life.
  • Sorry to anyone that does live there but I do know that the new(ish)development Kingsway has some unbelievably cheap properties but its reputation is not good.

    what specific areas are you looking at?

    I wouldn't touch Kingsway, it's full of h.a. and people who bought 4/5 bed executive homes and can't sell them because of it. If i was you i would be lookng to one of the suburbs such as Longlevens, elmbridge, abbeymead, abbeydale, tuffley, linden and quedgeley,

    Gloucester has it bad (or should i say no so good areas matson, barton, tredworth, coney hill i would stay clear of).

    But its a city definitely on the way up... but only just

    I would never live in gloucester it is rough, worse than cinderford (us locals will know what i mean lol), gloucester is dirty, run down, most shops r packing up in the centre, homeless people beggers etc outside the shop in town and just in general the gangs you see hanging around the town, well suppose you have to visit the place to see what i mean but i refuse to shop there let alone live there
    Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.
