I used to defend Tescum against all their critics, but after two personal examples of very bad customer service I am now more critical. I used coupons as they brought Tescums high prices down to a reasonable level.
Its back to LIDL for me - very good food, reasonable prices.

Conditional spend coupons such as spend £30 at Asda for £5 off, are still accepted as normal.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I'm sure i saw Martin on tv (or was it maybe radio 2?) telling us to use any vouchers at Tesco.

Yep and that is the reason that Tesco aren't going to stand for it anymore according to a cashier that served me this morning at my Tesco Extra.

There was a sign on every till for the customer to read stating that they would only take either a Tesco or other coupon if you bought the product.

I wonder if they will take internet printed coupons now if you actually buy the product, mine would not take internet coupons at all unless they said SafeCoupons on them even if you bought the product.

I tried to use a somerfield spend £30 and get £5 yesterday in my local tesco and the lady on the till called 2 people to check and they both said that I couldn't use it. I was quite annoyed aswell because it wasn't like I just spent £30. I spent £100!
  • Really disappointed that Tescos have changed their coupon policy. I never used the internet ones, just the ones from magazines. Oh well, was good while it lasted.

They should have accepted it. It is still company policy to accept competitor conditional spend coupons.

I thought that too. The manager wasn't around and so the lady asked 2 different people who seemed like they didn't really know. I stood my ground but didn't want to argue as it's not my style so just gave up in the end!

Am presuming from your post that you work for tesco?! Do you know if I can call or email tesco's head office mainly to let them know that said store refused it so they are aware for other people and obviously would be even better if they could give me my fiver back too lol!:rotfl:

I work for Tesco as a stock control manager, ( I order in all the stock), but I used to be a services manager. I've never had any experience personally with emailing head office, but calling customer services on 0800 505555 usually does the trick for me.

I know people have sent in their receipts with the vouchers and had a gift card back, if you've spent £100 you could use multiple vouchers.

Just explain the problem that you had and they usually just send a gift card with an apology. Send it recorded though and keep or send a copy of your receipt. HTH

Rang Tesco customer service's who said that they should have accepted the coupon. They said to take it back to the store though and ask for it back next time I go in!

Not sure if I would be better writing to them like you say groovygirl.
