Do Morrisons take money off coupons if you don't buy the product?

    Morning All,

Unfortunately, at Morrisons you have to buy the product to be able to use the coupon.

I'm glad they are clamping down, they must end up with coupons they cant cash in etc and those costs simply get added onto the cost of all items so that everybody pays more for those that abuse the system.

Saying that, they should never have decided to take coupons where the item was not being purchased anyway.

I am really dissapointed that Tesco will no longer take manufacturers coupons. I can understand them having a problem with internet coupons, which are more easily open to abuse, but I hoped they would have still accepted a percentage of the branded ones. I didn't have many each week (approx £6/7) but when these were added to the conditional spend vouchers such as Sainsburys etc it made a big difference.

I will now do my main shop and top-ups elsewhere and just do my emergency shop at Tesco as it's nearer.

Just on another note I called in at Morrisons last night and the cherry tomatoes I left behind at Tesco (300g for 99p) were 400g for £1.08 at Morrisons. Not sure of the maths, but every little helps ;)

Its not really Tesco's fault. The coupons do say on them what products they are for, and Tesco accepting them for anything and everything leaves them in a position where the manufacturer can refuse to credit Tesco for the coupon. Now before everyone shouts about how Tesco can afford it, remember those large profits can quickly disappear when 1 million customers use £5 coupons each week for a year etc etc.

Just like R&R, the coupon policy has suffered because some people just got too greedy.

    Mortgage-free Glee!
I don't think it is the end of the world. In a few months, when the dust has settled, they'll probably re-introduce it anyway and MSE Martin would be gagged and tied up in his office by then! :) Calm down, ladies, I don't mean it in a rude way!! :rotfl:

  • Does anyone know if these includes conditional spend coupons eg £5 off when you spend £30 at Asda....tescos used to accept them as although they made no money they would ratehr you spent the £30 in tesco and get your custom
  • A victory for common sense and decency! It's not Tesco that has been suffering, but the manufacturers, many of which are operating on very tight margins. The clout of Tesco means they are forced to reimburse Tesco for the coupons because they fear Tesco will reduce orders/give their products less prominence etc. After all, given the proportion of groceries bought in Tesco, which food manufacturer would want to get on their wrong side? Obviously some very popular manufacturers would have more bargaining power, but many wouldn't.
  • Oh well, it was good whilst it lasted! I only ever used £1-2 a week as my local wouldn't accept internet coupons and my shopping bill isn't that much as there's only 2 of us but it was still a help.

I found myself whimpering whilst reading a magazine this weekend and found 2 coupons in there :D
