Sometimes it's hard to walk in a single woman's shoes - that's why we need really special ones!

Right all, got a serious debt related question for you. Going to do my own diary in the New Year and my debts are small but I want rid of them. Just wondering what I should keep for 'living on' while I'm trying to pay them off. I mean after food, rent, council tax, internet, phone, contact lenses and minimum payments have all been paid. Basically my fun budget to do extra food for friends, drinks with mates, nights out, the odd takeaway, clothes for work(work in a clothes shop so HAVE to buy some, not going to pretend I don't love it though!), other clothes, toiletries, make up etc, etc. Asking this here cos I know they're are those who would say 'nothing' but I know lots of you do it whilst having a life too and that's what I need. Have a great social life and can cut it back a bit but don't want to wake up in 5 years going 'I'm debt free and bored to tears!' It's not that important that I want to wreck my life for it but at the same time I would like it done. What are your thoughts?

Hmmm I'm actually warming to those shoes now that I can imagine what a pair of legs would look like in them!

Souk: I spend about £10-20 a week on fun stuff when I can afford it. Either a night out or a takeaway or something like that...

I'm sorry for the demon I've become but you should be sorry for the angel you are not.
  • Souk, first I'd look at how much you've got left over each week after budgeting for necessities... you can't really say 'I'll budget this much' until you know exactly what is left over.

Second, maybe look at what you usually do for fun. If you go out for dinner, go for drinks, go to the movies, they all cost different amounts... so maybe pick your favourite, find out how much it costs you next time you do it, and have that amount as your weekly 'treat'. Works for me... usually ;)

  • If I am drunk I don't think about it and can walk fine (honestly I just typed every word of that wrong!!)

oooo the police annoy me! they have arrested a bloke for carrying a screwdriver(well not all of them of annoy me, cos I obviously I like the ones that arrest the criminals)but any how its probably a badly edited tv programme so I shall shut up.

Back to the topic, when sober I am always worried about falling over, I only wear Wedges and Mary Jane style shoes to work.

must sell my shoes on e bay (I appreciate that I will probably go to hell for saying such a thing on here!!)

Worked out I've got about £65 a week after essentials are out. Was thinking of spending £50 a week on 'living' and putting £70 a month to debts?

Nooooo... don't sell your shoes. Ok.. Ideas.

First, if your ankles hurt your going to have to build up muscles?? strength around them, best way to do that is wearing heels :p

Maybe wear them next time you go to the supermarket? Then you can practice holding onto the trolley. Actually read that in a book somewhere, pretty good advice ;)

That sounds fair, and you can always throw anything you don't spend from the $50 off the debt at the end of the week/fortnight/month ;)

  • You see I was still on the shoe thing.

Souk, I basically have one weekend out and one weekend in - well that is the theory and as MissLauren says, take the cheaper option (VOUCHERS) I also try to have no spend days in the week before a good weekend out

I guess budget wise I am quite generous. I have maybe 200 quid to cover going out. I don't always spend it mind you but its there.
