Ruby if you read the thread again my 'nonsense' about onion and garlic was posted after Charleysez suggested a kitten was given garlic salt. Kittens are much less discerning than adult cats - clay litter anyone?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

As I said before, it is possible to buy suitable environmental sprays at retail outlets, not just from the vets. I have such a spray in front of me and it contains the following ingredients:
Permethrin - insecticide
Tetramethrin - also insecticide
Methoprene - insect growth regulator
The Methoprene is the important one here, it's the chemical which prevents the adult fleas from laying eggs and therefore breaks the life-cycle of the insect: without IGR any spray's effects will be severely limited. I used this spray when my cats had an infestation and sprayed it everywhere, including underneath heavy furniture. This, combined with Frontline and vacuuming twice a day, resulted in visible results within a few days and the infestation was clear in a fortnight.
So, not ALL sprays bought retail are useless but I do agree that all of the "spot-on" products available in supermarkets and pet-shops are.0 -
You can get cats inoculated for fleas...it makes the fleas sterile. Not cheap though.
You can get fumigation flea bombs online that do a room.
I personally have 3 fleabags and bought a steam cleaner which I run round all their sleeping spots, carpet corners and anywhere where fleas can be hiding....then flea the cats.
Now is a good time to rid the house of fleas ...you have a long time before it's warm and they get breeding again, unless you have the heating on high which really gets them breeding.
I've never had a spray that was easy to use or worked...some of them sound like a cat spitting which means bloody hands and no cat around suddenly, I even tried one of those combs that ZAP fleas with electricity...don't bother they don't work.
I haven't seen any for a while, but flea powder works well on cats and furniture.
It's an ongoing battle

you can check on google, but i left it for a good week (tho 2-3 days is average i think), to be sure, then hoovered it all up and did it again. we werent really infested as i only found 1 or 2 a day at this point but once your down to this level, just keep hoovering and salting and anything else you want to do and it will all go away! hopefully!Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000
