Lets all get environmental sprays other places than from the vets eh?!!0

The original products you used would probably not have killed all of the eggs aswell, a few years ago i used to work for a pest control company. If a property had fleas we would go in and spray, and advise (as mentioned in a prev post) not to clean/hover for approx 4 weeks, however we couldnt guarentee that one treatment would work this is because eggs can be laid in areas that the treatment simply cannot reach. This is why we would then offer a second treatment foc approx 2 weeks later foc if there was still evidence of an infestation.
You may well ahve hoovered, but did you empty the hoover immediatly outside? as otherwise any fleas or eggs would remain in the hoover and you would simply be moving them, not removing them.
I moved into a new property and bought a sofa from a furniture reclaimers, the sofa was full of fleas, and twice daily i had to hoover every soft furnishing (inc curtains, beds and bedding - very hard work) then using a spray afterward on everything actually rectified the problem after approx a week.
To rid the cats of fleas i would continue grooming them as you are. It is diffiult to do, but really this is the only way to do it without paying high prces for proffessional treatments or a company to do it for you. Hope you get the issue under control soon!10k in 2010 - £350.77 :beer:0 -
thanks for that.
it seems to be calming down. i guess i didnt give it enough time to die down after spraying everything. i have been finding the odd one but nothing like before when i could see them crawing over his face which is good. so fingers crossed i can finally get rid of them!!
im getting new sofas delivered soon so im hoping that will also help.
thanks for all your help xxJune 22 wins -

The best thing to do is take them to the Vet for some drops, they often take care of fleas in the house too.
Shop bought stuff rarely works- I used 3 large canisters of powder on an infested carpet, still fleas until Lily came home with Stronghold, were gone within days!0 -
I have 3 cats and stopped using frontline on them because it doesn't work anymore. I now use promeris. I have to buy it at the vets, but I don't think it is much dearer than frontline. It works and this summer we have had no flea problems at all. :T:T0

tip: scatter table salt all over your carpets. it will absorb the moisture and kill the eggs, which are what are hatching and reinfesting your home daily.
much cheaper than the chemical powder the wife bought, especially as you have kitties!
How long do you leave it on the carpet for? When life throws you lemons...put them in a gin and tonic !!0 -
Whats up? What are you cutting and pasting all this rubbish for?
Do you not understand cats very well? They wont eat an onion or garlic if you plonked it in their dish but they might munch on a bit of chicken kiev that finds its way into dinner.
However, do you know why a cat will eat said Kiev? Because the levels of actual garlic and/or onion are so low that they aren't that bothered by it.
Animals have this canny knack of not eating what is poisonous to them, you know.
really..? well, clearly no-one told my dog that before she stole and ate half a bar of green and blacks dark chocolate (dark chocolate can kill dogs!) and a lump of glass that had to be surgically removed! She would happily eat onions cooked in many dishes.. however, as it has a cumulative long term effect I make sure she does not get any. My mum's dog also loves grapes, however, as few as six grapes have been reported to fatally poison a dog - now she knows this the dog does not get given any!
Cats will happily drink fatally poisonous antifreeze, as evidenced on another recent thread - oddly enough it tastes nice to them, so I don't see much evidence of this mysterious "canny knack of not eating what is poisonous to them"
As for "do you know why a cat will eat said Kiev?" - um, yes, because they know no better!
I think you need to get your facts straught before you accuse other posters of 'cutting and pasting rubbish'!!:rolleyes:0 -

This thread was started and discussed at the beginning of October and is about fleas.
Someone cut and paste some nonsense about onions and garlic when, as I said, the thread was about fleas and I replied to that asking her "Whats up?" I wondered why she felt the need to paste that on this thread and also pointed out that cats are pretty good at not eating whats bad for them.
So why do you then feel a need to have a sarcastic dig about my post in particular after all this time? (and not the first time )
You have quite a nasty tone and air about you when you say "I think you need to get your facts straught before you accuse other posters of 'cutting and pasting rubbish'!!".
As for 'getting my facts straight' its you who is talking about "dogs this and dogs that" when my post only concerned cats.
Someone said to me "Watch out for foreign correspondant as she looks for trouble" and I thought to myself maybe its just a clash of opinions or something similar that would make someone say that.
Now I am not so sure.
Foreign Correspondant could you stop with this please? I have seen you do it so often and it isn't very nice. You come across as a really stuck up, know it all and I know I am not the first to comment on it either. All you manage to create is a very bad atmosphere where new people don't feel welcome or worthy to be here.0 -
i've not noticed foreign correspondant looking for trouble personally
but as has been said before ruby, by myself and by others, your posts regularly come across as looking for trouble. your posts create a bad atmosphere where new people dont feel welcome. and your posts make you come across as really stuck up. i'll give you credit in that i've not noticed a post of yours for a couple of weeks be as condescending as they were, but i do feel that of all people on these boards you shouldnt be telling people that they are those things, its very pot/kettle/black.
as far as i can tell, foreign correspondant is a much respected and long standing member of this board, see both of your post counts - yours = 196, foreign correspondant = 5133. that says it all!Mummy to

I think when someone responds as you did ...Whats up? What are you cutting and pasting all this rubbish for?
Do you not understand cats very well?
...to a perfectly civil, useful and informative post, such as the one posted by firefox, which was very relevant to the issues of fleas (as someone had suggested earlier feeding cats 'garlic salt' as a flea repellant - even if the garlic was safe, the salt certainly isn't!), they perhaps need to examine their own posting style before criticising others.
Your post was factually innacurate, as cats and dogs will sadly often eat things which are toxic, so it is a mistake to think an animal will know what is dangerous and avoid eating it. I think it is worth being aware that this is not the case.
as for:Someone said to me "Watch out for foreign correspondant as she looks for trouble"
... well, as Oscar Wilde once said "The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.";)0
