  • There are quite a few household sprays available which contain the same ingredients that the ones from the vets do so the kittens' problem is most likely not from using a cr*p spray. What I think the OP is seeing are the newly hatched adult fleas emerging from their cocoons and no treatment on Earth has been invented to kill them when they are all cosy and protected in there. The only way to get rid of them IF the cats are adequately protected AND the environmental spray is a decent one is to hoover, hoover, hoover and then hoover some more. The noise and vibration will encourage them to hatch so then the Frontline and spray can do what they're designed for
  • i've just had my house sprayed by the council. Cost nothing but had to remove all people an dpets for 4 hours or so. And cant clean or hoover for 4 weeks! shame ; D

Ditto all the good advice above. It has been a really bad summer for flea infestation and Frontline just does not do the job anymore! I had to wait 4 weeks and then use Advocate plus another spray with Indorex before I calmed my household down.
When I have had small kittens in the past with fleas I have resorted to gently submerging them in body temperature water, just so that the fleas run to the kitten's unsubmerged head where you can pick them off and drown them. YEUCK!! But seemed a better idea than overwhelming the little things with chemicals. As always...check with the vet!

you can try adding garlic salt to their food, apparently fleas dont like garlic either!! as for the house, there is a spray from the vets, its orange, stinks to high heaven but works on carpets and furniture. you might have had little bits on your feet and ankles if they are in the carpets, this would be a good time to rip out all the carpets and go with polished floor boards!!!!

Salt is NOT healthy for cats, you could end up giving the poor things high blood pressure!! Secondly fleas don't just live in carpets, they can live in the crevices of wooden floors too - I know as I moved into a house that was infested with fleas but only had two carpeted rooms, one of which was full of boxes so we didn't use it.

yes, you can :) sainsbury's pharmacy sell it. It's £15

    Precisely - THE PHARMACY

It is not sold in normal Sainsburys or Tescos, there has to be a pharmacist present

i cant remember the name of the spray we used but if defo said that it got rid of the fleas and the eggs.i was thinking the next bet would be to take them to the vet to see what they think is best. i just feel so sorry for them :( one of them is black and white so i can really see them running around on him and feel so sorry for them when they itch i just dont know what else to do :(
What about getting a flea comb and combing them?
You then put the fleas in a bowl of water to drown them. Make you you squirt a tiny bit of washing up liquid or shampoo in the water first, then the fleas will sink and drown.

yes, but you told the OP you cannot buy it in a supermarket. I was just advising peeps that you CAN actually get it in a supermarket, albeit the pharmacy in the supermarket.

Also, Boots sell Aclaime. It costs £12.99 - I only spotted it after i'd paid £20 for a can from the vets:rolleyes: this is just on a normal shelf too. Not at the pharmacy, HTHS :)

Why wouldn't the council charge? I don't understand your roll eyes emoticon as generally fleas are as a result of not using appropriate flea prevention treatment. I would hate to think my council tax payments etc were going towards paying for people who hadn't taken adequate precautions.

tip: scatter table salt all over your carpets. it will absorb the moisture and kill the eggs, which are what are hatching and reinfesting your home daily.
much cheaper than the chemical powder the wife bought, especially as you have kitties!
