Of course its the OPS job, shes the owner and has the responsibility of her pups health. If she was not happy with what the vet decided back then she could have voted with her feet and gone to another practice

People HAVE to put their trust in their vet, they bring them in because of their knowledge! duhh

But vets like GPs often specialise in different areas with a general knowledge base. Despite the unsavouriness of the situation the dog is not from the sound of it in mortal danger and they have been treating the dog with ABs. If it turns out there is a foreign body in the dogs nose then obviously it will be removed and treated - it's entirely possible it had already left the nose and nasal cavity by the first vet visit. If it's now migrated to just under the skin this could have happened on day one meaning they may have spotted nothing with an endoscopy anyway...
Once the dog has been treated and has recovered THEN sit down and review the case and speak to the vet - until then if you're not happy go to another vet. Guessing at what the cause is of if they are negligent is basing accusations on only part of the story and evidence... would you like it if someone did that to you at work? I'm guessing not...

Precisely, but the op has decided her vet isnt to be trusted she has lost trust in the vet so therefore its up to her to go to a vet she does trust

Or would you stick with a dentist or doctor you thought was making a right hash of your teeth/health?

    duhhhhhhhhhh
  • Mrs Tine, I didn't say the vet was negligent here, I said I didn't know if that was the case or not. I was merely pointing out that one is entitled to rely on a professional person's advice as it is their expertise that one is paying for.

in which case then rely on it and don't question it until after all the facts are known :)

Funny enough I am not a vet.

I was told she was going to get the scope, then they did something else and I though 'maybe I was wrong' so did what they suggested, how am I supposed to know the vet was wrong or putting me off. Now I know they were putting me off because the scope was broken.

I called last week and asked about her having it and they booked me in for another consultation and gave her tablets instead - which I thought I would try because maybe I HAD got it wrong. When it turned out I did not get it wrong I took her back. This is my duty. However are you allowed to switch between vets in that way? I do not know and I think I asked this in my opening post. I've never had issue as such before because this was not something like an injection, it was something we had been to the vets for 3 times before. Would changing prolong the issue, I did not want to risk this and for it to take longer. I wanted to know what I should do, not be told 'tough you are lucky the surgery has a scope as they are expensive'.

Yesterday when it was clear the tablets were not working I went back - again asking for the appointment for the scope and again being charged a consultation fee. This is when they said pus was leaking from her nose - it was then that they admitted scope was not there and was broken.

I did try and get my puppy the help but though the vets were sorting it but really they were putting me off. This is what I have issue with. I had to pay £75 on consult fees and £20 on anti-biotics while they put my dog off because the scope was broken! I was not supposed to know this is what they was doing!!

The vet's know they have done wrong to let it get this far as I called yesterday and said I was going to complain. I asked why i had to pay to be told she was going to get the op - the same op I had called about her having the week before - and now they are tripping over themselves to get it sorted because they know they are wrong.

I've got what I wanted - my dog is being treated on Monday and hopefully there will be no lasting damaged.

In regard to the NHS and waiting times though, nope. When I had something wrong with me that required scans I paid for them privately as I knew i would be waiting weeks for one on the NHS and doing this already caused the loss of one ovary. To get to the bottom of my problems I was having 3-5 scans a week for a month. It was expensive but I was not going to risk losing that ovary as well.

As for being lucky because it is not NHS. We are paying for a service we should not expect a 2nd rate service because it is an animal and vet's cannot afford equipment!! If the vets fees are not high enough to cover the costs then put them up!! Insurance covers nearly everything these days anyway.

However, if I am paying for a service from whatever business then I expect to receive it. If you put your car in for a service you expect to have a thorough service, you would be far from happy if they said 'well, we have done it all but not checked your brakes as the equipment for that is too expensive for us to buy'. Especially if they charged you full price to tell you that. It is ridiculous!!

I had a terrible vet, who I had serious reservations about, but who I ended up going with out of convenience. My cat died as a result. Get a new vet now.

LOL, lots of posts here since I started my post and been distracted several time. It'll be my last for a while though, it is picking up time.

The issue I have is that I was not informed. Jasandjules kind of knocked it on the head really. I waffle on way too much.

I have not known them long enough to trust them. My last vet was lovely, you asked to see her by name and she saw you. I realy miss my old vets and the personal service I suppose, nothing else seems to compare. I am going to get the op done as long as she is OK that is the main thing.

I am however going to complain as I feel they could have been honest with me rather than fobing me off and charging me more. If she get's worse then I shall certainly call the vets as they do have an emergency number but I'd rather wait and get her done on Monday before changing because it is almost over. Hopefully.

I think we're going round in circles here! ;)

It sounds like you're content with the way ahead so hopefully your dog will be on the road to recovery come Monday.

Do let us know how you get on with your new vet when you come to change. Finger's crossed they'll be better for you than your current one (and the other one you tried).

to me, it sounds as if the vet was stalling, hoping that the scope would get returned sooner rather than later from the repair shop, so they could then do an expensive procedure, and in the meantime charging consult for unnecessary consults - i find that very wrong, even if they felt the situation wasn't life-threatening! the OP would have been none the wiser that this was the case if this little bit of info hadn't slipped out accidently.
