Fuming with my vets - rightly so or not, some advice before I call today

Just be a little aware of getting her back onto dried food as she starts to recover -you don't want the next thing to be her refusing to eat it at all if you relent and give her chicken and rice.
Hope it all gets sorted soon - for what it worth, we changed our vets (even though we'd gone there specifically because a friend was a vet there) as the senior partner a) made the dog very uncomfortable during her kennel cough and subsequently she was reluctant to go back there despite always having been delighted to go and be fussed over by the nurses, and b) decided he was a qualified assistance dog trainer on a subsequent visit and that she would never work as she wasn't suited (she not only passed but in record time and is now working with a new Mum and five kids to boot!).It aint over til I've done singing....0 -
I thought I would come back here to report on how she is today.
Like nothing ever happened!!
The pus coming out of her nose has all but stopped, just when she sneezes. The cough has all but stopped. She is back on her dried food again (although only after hunting high and low to see if anything else is available, she really does not like it!!). I've taken her for a walk and she stopped and sniffed a piece of grass and backed off. You have to wonder if she knows.
But. Fingers crossed it seems to have worked. The lump on the side of her nose has gone down too. And all in all she seems much happier. The snoring has also stopped and also she is not choking in her sleep anymore. It is all good - I've forgotten about being so cross for now because she is happier and much, much better.
She is not too keen on going out to poop in the rain though, LOL. AND she had her very first ever wee while on a walk today - she always holds it in til she gets home. How good did that feel!! LOL!! We had our first rainy day walk today. If anything changes I'll be back to let you all (and have a moan!!).0 -
That's good to hear :T0

Great news, thanks for keeping us posted.
Those grass seeds are a menace, thankfully this will be the end of them till next summer so hopefully no more mishaps.
Not sure what breed you have, but always check her over when back in from a walk, esp between the toes if long haired and around and under ears if the droopy type. A minute or two doing that every walk can save a lot of heartache and worry later xx0 -
Been following this thread, blue monkey, and I'm so pleased your puppy is better. I think you had every right, also, to be annoyed.
When my 12 yr old dog suddenly went off his food, I took him to the vet and he was kept in for 4 days for various tests, xrays, scans and blood tests. Nothing was found and after 10 days and my kicking up a huge fuss, the vet referred my dog to a local veterinary teaching hospital. He said they had "proper equipment" there. Having been charged nearly £1000 for the tests my dog had with my own vet (thankfully insurance covered) I asked what exactly they had been using on my dog if they had no "proper equipment". Only basic stuff, was the reply.
I took my dog to the vet hospital where "proper equipment" revealed a massive tumour on his spleen, which had ruptured and was filling his abdomen with blood, a tumour on his kidney and one in the retro peritoneal space too.
So my poor dog had to be put to sleep.
I just could not believe my own vet had missed all that...especially as I'd asked the vet to check on a swelling in my dog's abdomen some two weeks before he stopped eating, and was told (without any investigation) "It's just fatty tissue".
I have changed vets for my new dog who's 16 months old now. I will always say, if you are not happy - for ANY reason - with your vet, go elsewhere. Don't take a chance on your dog's life.0 -

If you put your car in for a service you expect to have a thorough service, you would be far from happy if they said 'well, we have done it all but not checked your brakes as the equipment for that is too expensive for us to buy'. Especially if they charged you full price to tell you that. It is ridiculous!!
While I agree that you shouldnt have to pay a consultation fee the example you have chosen here is another where a business wont have the equipment you think they do. Unless a car garage carries out MOT's they will not have equipment to check your brakes. Many car garages will also lack the expensive computer diagnostic equipment required for modern cars. You'd be surprised how far this goes!
Anyway... glad your dog is feeling better!0
