Advice - constant fault W995 on Orange

Hi
I upgraded in July got the W995 which I do really like, however I am on my 3rd handset casued by the same fault on every single one, I have been meaning to phone up since mid August as its been faulty since then but know they will just send out a refurbished one.
My fault is, that the screensaver doesn't work - not a big deal but the other fault it a pain in the backside!!! I can't view my photos via file manager, I've tried diff memory cards and memory card in old phone and both work fine so think its it handset.
One way to fix it is take the battery out for 1 min and put it back in, which sorts out the problems for 12 hours (noticed that!) but it looses the date/time?! which I find very strange!
I have the latest updates etc and its not been dropped or anything, so really don't understand it.
Anyone else having this problem?
As its happened sooo many times, what do you think are the chances of orange letting me upgrade to the iphone when it arrives? I've been with Orange for 6 years contract and 3/4 years pay as you go and I am happy with them jut not the handest!!
Thanks and look forwrad to hearing all advice!!

I doubt they will let you upgrade unless you pay for the phone outright which will be expendisve.

Are you sure this is a fault with the phone though. It doesn't show photos via the file manager seems a software limitation rather than an actual fault. Have you been able to try on an in store phone to actually see if this is normal behaviour?
Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies

Well its happened with 3 so far, and each one has had a system reset and its still happened, and ruled out memory card by using it in old phone.
Not tired a hanset instore, I always just phone up as my contract is an online one, but the fault takes 12 hrs to reoccur - its really strange, even tried changing time setting to 12 hour rather than 24 but it didn't work!
    Its just really annoying,

Another thing it does is it often has mesages in the sent items in brackets when they have been sent, its bizzare!!!
e.g. Sent Messages (2) when all have been sent seen them all go and status on each message is sent

Not following what the problem is exactly.

Sent messages are normally stored on your phone - thats normal for almost all phones I think. The Outbox folder normally shows the mesages currently going out.

And you have to be careful with the memory card - if its not one that is compatible with the phone, you risk damaging the memory card as a minimum. Even if it works - the spec of the memory card must be that which the phone is designed for.

Viewing photos normally via File Folder means opening one picture for a start and then scrolling through others. Or usually there is a media viewer somewhere in the phone. Not sure if the W995 model has that but the sony k810i I had in past definitely did.
  • Forgot about the message thing until I replied! sorry! it stange its like the message hasn't been sent but it has - strange I know!
I only use the memory card that came with the phone direct from orange, and tried my old memory card which was in my previous sony phone which also came from orange direct.
Yeh can view it via media part but its annoying if you get a mms and want to save the pic - can't always view it that way (or it didn't last week!)

It might depend on the MMS message to be honest - unless you can save the attachment as a jpeg file onto the phone (or a format the phone recognizes with the right extension), you wont be able to view it.

Someone sent me a MMS recently and it was blank - could not see anything and I am on t-mobile with a LG mobile.

You might want to do some testing by getting someone to send you some pictures - saving the file to the Pictures folder and renaming the file with proper extension. And see if phone pics it up. Storage folder is important.

As for screensavers, you basically need a .GIF image file and do some testing by changing screensaver to that file.

The time/date - that gets erased when you take your battery out. Not a fault.

File manager - if you go into this, then into the folder with the images, what do you see? You should see 9 mini panels with your image in, otherwise, it will just list files, needing it to be opened before you can view it.

Messages - how are you viewing them? Whenever I do it via date, it does that, just a list of the messages doesn't.

(btw, I have a w995, so does my partner, and a mate of mine)

The handset shouldn't lose the date or time when you take the battery out, it shouldn't lose any of its settings, it's a fault and you can get it replaced, just say the clock keeps resetting itself

The date and time can reset if you take the battery out for long periods of time.

The rest of the settings should remain. And why take the battery out so often?
  • All pics when I view them via file manager come up as the sony ericsson woman cartoon thing with the bottom right hand corner taken out like a jigsaw.
I have to take the battery out to be able to view the pics in file manager, the media way doesn't let me do what I'm doing with them (posting online before anyone asks)
I probably should phone up but know I'll just get told tough but quite frankly the phone isn't carrying out the jobs its supposed to
JUst curious if I am the only one? As I seem to be but don't understand why its still happening handset after handset

Does it on several nokias, all 9 of my SE phones, LGs, some Samsungs do as well, same as erase the call logs when the battery is taken out. I'm used to it - the amount of times I test phones to see if they're simlocked for customers taught me a lot. Some do, some don't.

Pics are not supposed to appear like that though, never seen that, sounds like a fault, but I would advise software updating it through SEUS, there was an update released not long ago for it, now I get reminded to take the charger out of the wall then I take my phone off charge XD
