Hi folks
I'm sorry to hear that any of you may have experienced any untoward behaviour from any Sales Representatives who are acting on ScottishPower's behalf.
This is certainly something we do not condone from any of our staff or those who represent our company, and we take matters of this nature very seriously. We would welcome contact from any customers who experience this sort of behaviour, and we will strive to investigate these matters fully.
On the whole, this sort of occurence is rare but I sincerely regret if any of you have experienced this.
Please remember that we are always willing to listen to your concerns, no matter what they are concerning.
Kind regards
Paul @ ScottishPower“Official Company Representative

Hi Paul,
Maybe people reporting these things to you are rare but I can assure you, every salesman I have ever spoke to be it Scottish Power or any of the other suppliers uses the above methods (and others) to try and convince people to switch.
In my experience Southern Electric are the worst culprits but that may just be because they have darkend my door on more occasions.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

The favoured ones in my neck of the woods are British Gas and (I think) N Power. My DDs have answered the intercom before to be told 'We're from BG to check your meter'. Even DD2 (10) replies 'No, you're not, because we're not with you' and hangs up without letting them into the building. Unfortunately, there's usually one dim person in the block who lets them in anyway, so they end up tapping on my door. One rep even tried saying he had been next door and needed to check for a leak in the meter cupboard.
A good one is when they say they are meter readers and you ask them what company/ies you get your energy from. If they can't answer, you know for a fact that they are lying. My electricity company contracts out the reading to another company and they can tell you straight away that they are from X company, but they are reading the meter for Y.
All doorstop charlatans get pretty short shrift from me.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Unfortunately, sales people will often say *anything* to get a sale and many of them aren't the sharpest tools in the box. Hence the rather silly statements we hear.
My favourite put down at the moment is "oh I've just switched to [their company] and used a cashback website so I got the commission myself"0 -
Had a "Salesman" from Scottish Power call today.
"I'm not selling anything we are just checking that you are not paying too much for your electricity, as we own the local power station we can sell it to you cheaper than anyone else"
"Can I have look at your meter and old bills please"
No go away.
"Can I take your name so I can cross you off my list then?"
No go away.
He wasn't very persistent with me he but did call at every house on the road so may have had more 'luck' with other people.
BTW. The local power station is owned by RWE npower.0 -
How can the SP rep claim this sort of incident is 'rare'? They would only get to know about it if the person who's house it was contacted the company to make a complaint. And how many actually do that? 0.5%? 1%? 2%? It's rather a nonsense claim, TBH. What happens to reps who HAVE been reported doing this sort of thing at the door and it's been proven? Summary dismissal? Or just 'more training'?Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Hi Carmine
In reply to your post, I can only comment on actual occurrences of this type of behaviour and we are only aware of these when customers have contacted us to let us know. In this instance, the number of contacts we have of this nature compared to the number of customers transferring to ScottishPower would indicate that this sort of thing is rare. I'm sure that you can appreciate that I am only able to comment on actual data rather than speculation.
This is why I have advised that any customers who experience this sort of behaviour should contact us, with as much information as possible, as this would enable us to carry out a thorough investigation, with the appropriate action taken following this.
Once again, I can assure you that we take matters of this nature very seriously and we welcome any feedback from customers relating to this matter.
Regards

This week the meter man called to say we were on a high tariff and should think of switching to the local supplier Scottish Power (Manweb). Would he know this from reading the meter? Had been changed to E-on's R3 rate from capped so a timely reminder. Used a comparison site and EDF were cheaper with cashback so moved there.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Hi all, I wanted to chip in today (as a long-time MSE lurker!) as this annoyed me so much.
A man from Scottish Power came to the door and I informed him we're not with SP. He said OK, but they are the distributors of electricity in this area (I have no idea if this is true), and that "we handle complaints and a common complaint is people constantly getting estimated bills..."
I think this is an outright lie because you would go to your own supplier if you had a billing complaint.
He kept denying being a salesperson, but was just checking on complaints. I refused to give him any details after he started asking if I paid by Direct Debit etc, and asked him to go away as we were busy and we had no complaints anyway. He said they would send something in the post instead!? (I didn't give my name obviously.)
Why they can't just be honest about trying to sell something
Thanks for reading - appreciate the opportunity to vent(and hopefully someone who might be able to take some action will read this)
I wish now I'd thought of giving the excellent MSE response about getting commission from cashback sites myself!0 -
Hi there everyone, I had a manager from southern electric at my door,
I said that I am in process of moving not going to change supplier, he said that he wasn't trying to switch me as I was already with them! ( isn't it seeboard or now EDF round here?) I disputed this any way as I am with BG! he said that BG don't supply us they do, and I need to ask you a few questions. He then asked if I had received a price tarrif, I said no but that it was totally irrelevant because we are moving shortly, he asked why is it not relevant?, I said because you won't be supplying me or the company I pay the bill to as I am moving to Yorkshire, he still tried to ask more questions, I said goodbye!0
