Have you been told this by a Scottish Power salesperson?

Please can you post here if you have had a similar experience with someone representing Scottish Power?
Have you been told that they are the only company generating electricity at the time and that you can save money by going with them to cut out the middle-man?
-OR-
Scottish Power are your provider/supplier and they want to see your last energy bill to check that you are getting the best deal? (even if you are not their customer for retail or distribution)
Thanks.

I've not, but I've heard of it.
SP are not the only culprits.
Many companies generate electricity, and it all gets put in the same pot.
This will just be a ploy by a slaes agent to get you to sign with them
Check on comparison sites which deal is best for you, and then make your desciosn to switch (or not). You may also be able to get some cashback.0 -

i work for one of the energy companies in the uk and i have dealt with a lot of complaints where suppliers have sent field sales agents to peoples doors, some of the things they say to try and get people to change energy supplier are stupid, scottish power are not the only company in the uk generating electricity so firstly they are talking rubbish.
best thing you should do is to compare prices between your current energy supplier and scottish power. if you have any complaints about the way the selling agent came across then contact consumer direct/consumer focus or contact scottish power customer relations. they will address any issues

I had a Scottish Power rep knock on my door last week, saw the badge before he even opened his mouth. I said 'I'm not interested in switching suppliers', to which a little disingenuously he replied, 'I'm not here to try and switch you'. Ha ha ha.
The conversation lasted about another 3 seconds.....0 -

lol yep so many use that line I not trying to sell you anything I just want to give a free quote out the goodness of my heart.............my reply's vary - why would I want a quote if I am not interested you what is for, or surely and forgive if I am wrong a quote is given as a pre requiste to a prospective purchase is it not? and therefore it would follow that if you want to give a quote you are irgo therefore hoping I will buy and surely that would mean you ARE trying to sell me somehing which would mean you either do not understand the principle of giving a quote or someone has provided you with informaton of the inaccurate type..............by which point they have hung up
if or I want to show you how you can save money - reply is save money thats easy I wont buy anything from you that so that will save me money.
I know they are trying to earn living but they would do a lot better if they did not treat prospective customers like idiots as it only ends up making them look like liers and fools.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -
Just changed my tactics.
Used to keep them chatting from the window. They would have to stand near a pile of pretend dog chit.
NOW, I invite them in, think I know enough about the workings to keep them from hasssling other and maybe more vulnerable people.0 -

Yep, we had someone come to our door and say that - "we're not trying to switch you". He then went on to ask to see our current energy bills and try (kind of successfully) to switch us. I say "kind of" because we then ended up in the situation I posted about yesterday, the switchover was cancelled because we owe money to our current supplier but Scottish Power still took money out of our account.
Safe to say the next person who came to our house got quickly moved on.
I actually put a notice on our door one time saying "if you are selling gas, electric, or anything else, please do not knock. You can't all be cheaper than each other - we are not interested". One day we get a knock from a guy saying "actually we are cheaper that the rest" - GO AWAY!!!0 -
Thanks for all the posts so far. I'm asking because somebody came to our door with the first comment & in the last few months I have heard of somebody in another part of the country had a similar experience and now I have heard about the second tactic too, all from SP.
I know that other companies can have questionable sales tactics but these examples from SP are bare-faced lies. I want to find out if these are because of a couple of rogue sales people, or something more deep-seated.0 -
It should be easy to get rid of them now. Just ask "My current supplier hasn't reduced the prices very much even though wholesale prices are half. Has your company vastly reduce their prices?"0

Had exactly the same from Southern Electric salesman
SE Salesman - "we are the regional supplier for this area, therefore we can supplier it cheaper than your current supplier"
Me - "But arent EDF the regional supplier in this area seeing is this is the seeboard region and EDF took over from them?"
SE Salesman "Erm, but we supply EDF with their electricity so we can sell it to you cheaper than they do"
Me - "Sorry I dont believe you, not that it matters if you could sell it cheaper than EDF as I'm with Scottish Power anyway, Goodbye!"
*shuts door in face*Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0
