You're in-denial of the dangers of torrents :p You need to be more aware of the risks of pirated software, Antivirus wont always pick the malware up and firewalls wont always stop malicious stuff. Just because a seeder says it's clean and it's got a high download count does not mean it's safe.

You have the legal/moral issue too, I don't recomend it so heed the advice for all our sakes. :)

I know the dangers and how to avoid most of the dangers. I havent had any problems in over 3 years and if I ever do it will be my own fault.

As for the morals, big business lacks morals too - just look at what happened with the banks as a recent example, or the health dangers of asbestos and tobacco which were known for years but covered up by big business. New Labour giving honours for cash, and the UK government releasing the Lockerbie bomber to help BP out with an oil contract. Tesco buying up land just so competitors couldn't get it, and putting money offshore to avoid UK taxes. Morals are all fine and well if everyone follows the same code but they just dont. There's hypocrisy everywhere.
  • So, my ex bought me (in entirely good faith) a PC with XP Professional preinstalled from a so called reputable dealer and because it was preinstalled, there wasn't a disk included. I went through all the registration processes and everything was accepted for years, only to suddenly get a message saying i had dodgy software and would no longer get updates. In the period between getting the computer and the message coming up, the shop has closed - not entirely surprisingly in over 5 years.

I have no redress, no way of reinstalling XP, nothing. It doesn't seem fair. But I'm pretty certain that this doesn't make me a pirate.

So I bought a Mac instead. Much easier.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

  • My copy of Office 2003 which I downloaded off a Newsgroup in 2004 has this weekend stopped passing the WGA.

This sounds like it is happening to alot of people with un-genuine Office 2003 installs.

    :(

    I love these discussions.

I used to pirate software and was never infected, you generally scan everything that comes from P2P because you dont know. When the softwares not running nothing can hide. Its very simple.

Morals are relative, as are laws. You'll never get arrested for downloading something or go to jail.

These big industries are so full of carp. I dont see film downloads damaging any movies stars wage, or software downloads damaging M$'s profits. These industries push more people to piracy simply because they say, "oi stop downloading that for free or we'll charge our genuine customers more and more until you stop". What idiots!

Oh and the argument that without pirates it would be cheaper is based on nothing but the word of these companies.
