No it isnt. It's because Microsoft and most other large companies are greedy. And you cant do jail time for downloading software for personal use.0 -

So because you STEAL from a large organisation, it's okay? Well it isn't. It's still theft in the clearest of terms. It's against the law, and only causes consumers with morals to lose out.
Cutting off your broadband would seem like a great thing to do. Maybe the government should go down that route.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -

So how have you lost out? Microsoft make huge profits, they have several billionaires on their books, obviously it isnt affecting them too badly. Perhaps if they didnt charge so much they'd still do just as well, and have more people on their side.
But you're entitled to your opinion.0 -

Because there are hundreds of people just like you who STEAL the software, and that just pushes the price up. If more people paid for the software, rather than just nicking it, then the costs of development would be spread further, and the price per copy would come down. It's the way the free market economy works.
And they don't make software for the good of their health. If they weren't allowed to make a profit, they wouldn't stay in the business, and everybody would be the worse off.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -

No, everybody would use Linux.
Putting "steal" in bold capitals just makes you look like a Sun journalist btw.0 -

They do, students can get office for £35, NHS staff can get office for £9 Students can get Windows server 2003/2008 for free, Visual studio for free vista ultimate for £560 -

Well, if you deal with pirated software, your dealing with the black market/gangs/crime and what not right? And their giving you this software and you dont really know what your getting because it's not the real thing.
So when you put this onto your computer it could be bundled with trojans and malware or botnets key loggers... And because it's in the code it's like a polymorphic virus so that torrented' copy of Norton 360 wont be able to see it, you wont even know your infected before it's too late.
Your copy of office 2007 could be used to turn your computer into a bot to take a website down or download illegal content off the internet, it's just so risky.0 -

That's ridiculous.
The thing is if these products were reasonably priced they would need to discount heavily for certain groups that they consider more worthy.0 -

Actually internet piracy is far more advanced these days than some back street guy who's bundled malware onto the software. That sort of thing would be picked up on very quickly. There are a lot of reliable pirates these days, you'd be surprised how much quality control there is in the pirate world.0
