Cheapest Place To Buy Wireless Broadband Router?

Dear All

I have NTL at home and am looking to have a router attached to the cable modem (set top box) to avoid having to have the computer on upstairs when I want internet access with my notebook elsewhere (both working on wireless - can change the leads but then have to keep rebooting the set-top box which is hassle).

Does anyone know of any offers for Wireless Cable Broadband routers - found

Is this comparable as the other mentions 54bps but this one does not?

The one in the post above is old 11b technology operating at a maximum of 11mbps.

The one that operates at 54mbps is newer 11g technology.

hence the price difference.
I'm led to believe that signal strength / coveragee distance is better with the 11g 54mbps technology.

I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to despite scouring the Internet - hope someone here can help:

Is it possible to connect a USB Cable Modem directly to a wireless router or access point so that the Internet is then available to my laptop anywhere in the house? Or will I need to get hold of another computer in order to create the network?

your cable modem would need an ethernet port to connect to the wireless router, or get an combined modem/router is easiest. Otherwise you wuld generally need a PC connected to your USB cable modem otherwise

I have a pc connected to the internet and a laptop currently connected via the pc. I need wireless connection to the pc and laptop so I can move the pc upstairs (and regain my dining room) but don't have a clue what to get. Freeserve have said to do this they have a kit that costs about £75. Would this be a good option - I think they said I need some kind of card too? I don't understand what they're on about and don't want to assume they're trying to sell me a *bargain* ???

Apologies for being thick ??? but I need some help understanding this so I thought it would be a good place to ask.
I work downstairs and my daughter has a pc upstairs. phone socket is downstairs and broadband comes next week. Does this piece of kit mean I plug in downstairs and both me and my daughter can use braodband wirelessly ( Not a proper word). If so how and if not can someone help me by telling my how we can use a braodband connection in two places in the house.
Please be gentle with me in terms of technology as it is not my bag. Many thanks in advance
