Being non british, i cant be on the electoral roll, still i can buy a house .
On my credit report i checked recently, score was 977..and it noted that ''things to do to improve your record is 1- to register on electoral roll'' which i cant .
its not compolsory , though it would be good to add you last 3-4 addreses on your experian file0 -
Get on the electoral roll if you can - it will definitely help when you want to get credit.
I shouldn't think it would make much difference when renting though.0 -
"" you will never get a mortgage if you are not on it  What a load of bollox.""
there are certain BTL lenders who will definitely not lend if you are not on the electoral role ......
so its not utter b..x
re non-british folks being on the electoral role - if you a re a member of the EU then you can be on the electoral role and can vote in European elections only - i have run an election station at every election for more years than i care to remember, so i know this is not b..x0 -
As an EU (but not british) national you can vote in your council elections, just not the UK national one. See http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Governmentcitizensandrights/UKgovernment/Politicalpartiesandelections/DG_073243 . My other-half (who is spanish) gets to vote in the UK council elections, and the Spanish national elections.
I think you can go on the electorol roll, even if you can't vote in any elections! Your local council will give you final word.0 -
Please can somebody help me, ive placed a holding deposit on a house and paid the credit check fee, but ive just looked at my experian report and it says that i havent been on the electoral roll at my current address since 2005, ive never noticed this as i live with my parents and never wanted to vote anyway. Will the fact i was on the roll for 3 years be enough to get this house? I am out of my mind with worry now as i have forked out £330!!
Thankyou
i assume that you therefore never ever moaned about anything to do with public services?
what is wrong with some people?
it dosnt cost you anything to go on the electoral roll
it gives you 3 votes! local, national & european *
it makes it a little bit easier whenever anyone runs any checks on you, whether for credit, opening a bank account, even some employment checks check it
it is very likely that members of your family fought & died to ensure your right to a free vote0 -
Hi,
not sure if I have done this right, can't seem to find a new thread icon anywhere to click. My questions are, is it illegal to not be on an electoral roll and is it illegal not to fill one in that is posted to you.0 -
wiseways - it is not "illegal" not to be on electoral roll, you may not be entitled to vote.
What is illegal is refusing to return the form sent by electoral officer, or wifully omitting a person's name who should be on electoral roll or including a person's name who is not entitled to vote.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
Then the question is what to put on the form.
two students are there whilst they are on courses, one is 21 but registered at her main home with her parents, the other is under voting age and not interested in being on it. But it asks for all people who live there to be on it even if they are under voting age, provided they are 16 or coming up for 16, so that they may have them registered in advance. It cannot be said that nobody lives there and the council tax has been registered. So what is to be done without lying?

Just a further thought, If it is unlawful to not fill in an electoral roll form that is sent to you, then how can these people I am reading about in the threads manage to stay off the roll or unregistered as it were.:rolleyes:0
