Electoral Roll

Please can somebody help me, ive placed a holding deposit on a house and paid the credit check fee, but ive just looked at my experian report and it says that i havent been on the electoral roll at my current address since 2005, ive never noticed this as i live with my parents and never wanted to vote anyway. Will the fact i was on the roll for 3 years be enough to get this house? I am out of my mind with worry now as i have forked out £330!!

Thankyou

i would be suspicious, as a LL, as if you were living with your parents, presumably have no utility bills at that address.

Being on the electoral is the best way to prove that you actually live where you say you live - if you have other proof - Letters from teh tax man, national insurance, car insurance, a landlord may accept those as proof - but it will be up to them as indivuals to decide what proof they require

    good luck

Thankyou for your reply. Its actually a letting agent that im going through but I have got proof of address, i pay the landline phone bill here, i have a mobile phone bill and i also have a few credit cards. There is no problem proving that i live here.

you really need to be on the electoral roll - you will be refused further credit if you are not - the credit crunch has tightened up many earlier "softer" approaches to lending money - you will never get a mortgage if you are not on it

You are supposed to be on the electoral roll by law, the head of household is supposed to accurately complete the form. Whether you wish to vote or not is immaterial.

Thankyou Andy, you have put my mind at rest a little. I have just had a look through the forms from the credit referencing agency and had a look on their website and it says if a client is not on the electoral roll they must provide proof of address, like ive said i can provide them with mobile contract bills, landline bills and credit card statements no problem, fingers crossed and defo a big  if i get this house, lol.

    wake up....

I've just bought a house, with a mortgage a month ago and I'm not on the electoral roll (I didn't realise until I called to update my details last week)

It didn't stop me getting the mortgage though.

Indeed. People should stick to what they know instead of trotting out rubbish as per clutton and frank's posts . I know of several people not on the ER who have had no problems at all obtaining new mortgages over the past 12 months. Theoretically your chances are reduced not being on it due to a slightly lower credit rating, but if you've got a decent sized credit file already with good repayment history of any credit lines then they're really not going to be bothered about it.
