The Santa Talk
Comments
-
I don't know / remember ever having had the talk. I remember finding the christmas stockings Santa used in my mums cupboard so that kind of let the cat out of the bag!
I would like to take my kids 5 and 4 to see Santa in Lapland next year (I've started saving) so I hope that they still believe. I use different paper for their stockings than for any other present, and I have two stockings per child - one that is always empty and one that I can fill in advance!
I might try and make it a bit more magical this year with glitter / snowy footprints.
I remember trying to fool Santa by asking for a handwritten letter from him one year. I got one and didn't recognise the handwriting - so maybe he's still out there!
Oh and I try and do stockings for each other too - but they're not half as exciting as the kids ones and have kind of fallen by the wayside as we fall apart! Never mind - maybe this year....Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
At what age do you have the Santa talk with children?
My kids are 18 and 19, and I've never mentioned it
I still write 'master/miss tru, love from mum and dad' on a couple of their presents, the rest get wrapped in paper that they haven't seen and are labelled with just their names so they know they're not from us :rotfl:
And it's not Santa, it's Father ChristmasBulletproof0 -
Im 22 and my mum and dad have never told me or my brother and sister that Father Christmas doesnt exist. I think I was about 9ish when I heard of kids in school about it and when ever I asked my parents they always said ''theres always one gift, you dont know who its from''
What?? He doesn't exist?? You're all just mean telling me lies like that!
*puts fingers in ears and goes la la la laaaaaaaaaaaaa*
I'm off to write a letter to Father Christmas (Yes, NEVER Santa! lol) to tell him how mean you all are telling lies.

Haha! I did that too, one year I got a bit suspicious that the writing on the labels was like my mum's so me and my sister left a little questionnaire for Santa to write on and do you know it was nothing like my mum's writing on that! :rotfl:0 -
In our houseshold we are all fully aware that Father Christmas, the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny are real (DD1 14, DS1 12, DD2 9, OH 41, ME 38). The Tooth Fairy has even visited to collect puppy teeth!!!!
FC has to be real because we watch him delivering presents on the Norad Track Santa website.
He also leaves 'magic snow footprints' throughout the downstairs of our house! He has also started doing this in a number of my neighbours houses.
And for those who have a tendency to be naughty he leaves a piece of coal (very considerately wrapped in cling film) Obviously the piece of coal replaces a pressie that has now gone to a good girl/boy instead!!! Gosh.....what might that present have been?0 -
There is no "age". Its whenever they work it out for themselves and thats at school time - so 5-7ish?. But you need to keep an eye on things in case they work it out and tell younger siblings before they discuss it with you!
I would be gutted if my DS stopped believing at 5!
Father Christmas always used to leave a letter thanking me for the milk/biscuits and I noticed that he has the same writing as my mum.Just a coincidence I'm sure.

I would be too!
The point I was trying to make was that its the school environment really rather than anything else. It just takes one older sibling to convince a child, who takes it to school, who talks to everyone else and questions are asked at home. I wasn't suggesting that you agree with your 5yo that Father Christmas is not real, because we all know thats not true!0 -
Just don't tell them ever!
I had 'the talk' with mine when DS1 was 12 and DS2 was 11 (I know!). Had managed to convince them for years although they both had their suspicions. I didn't want them to get ridiculed.
Worst thing I ever did. Both were devastated to hear me telling them - felt so bad about it (although relieved that I didn't have to be so careful about wrapping paper etc.).
Now we had DD the magic is alive again. And I wont EVER tell her...Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.
If you quote me, don't forget the capital 'M'
