The Santa Talk

  • I was DEVESTATED when my mom told me. But I am afraid I still believe he's there!!! It's all part of the magic of Christmas. (That said, despite the youngest now being 25, my mum STILL makes anyone sleeping in the house on Christmas eve put out their stockings (a pair of ordinary socks - we never had "Christmas stockings") and they still get the book, box of sweets, and loads of fruit (a red apple, a green apple, an orange, a mandarin, a banana and a kiwi/pear), just not the toys anymore.

I will be going on the lines, as we've already had to do on a few other things, that different families do things different ways. Believe different things and have different rules. So while others might not believe, in this house, we DO. (Although I'll make sure that it's in away that she doesn't get ridiculed at school either - part of the magic of Chirstmas and lots of people don't see it that way....).

DD is a HUGE Christmas nut, as her birthday is Stephen's Day. She wants the Mr Men Christmas stories read all year round. So I think the "magic of Christmas" for our house will work.

I had just watched the Last of the Sumemr Wine Christmas Special and was so excited
I'd find it easier to believe in Father Christmas than that someone was excited by Last of the Summer Wine!

I agree 5 is much to young to find out.
We saw a show at Chessington World of Adventures a few weeks ago with dragons and jungle animals in. Kids told OH about it when we got home...
DD (aged 3) - "We saw a puppet show."
DS (aged 5) - "No, it wasn't a puppet show. They were real."

Can you imagine trying to tell him that it's not Father Christmas that brings the presents at this age??

Lol! I was young and foolish, what can I say?!

But it was the fact Father Christmas was visiting that excited me rather than Compo!

My DD who is almost 11 questioned me about Santa a couple of years ago and luckily both myself and my mum were working for a delivery company and so we told her that santa can't get all the presents to the North Pole in time for them to be delivered so he had a contract with our company where parents sent all the parcels to us and we delivered them to santa who in turn delivered them to her.

At first she didn't believe us so we got our manager to make up a fake delivery sheet with A.N. Elf as a signatory for christmas parcels. She hasn't said a word since!

My son believes without question and I don't care what anyone says, I saw Father Christmas for reals when I was only 6 years old...I Believe!!!!!

I would be gutted if my DS stopped believing at 5!
Father Christmas always used to leave a letter thanking me for the milk/biscuits and I noticed that he has the same writing as my mum. Just a coincidence I'm sure. ;)

Outside my Nan's old house there was a huge willow tree with a knot at the base that looked JUST like a door. That's where the fairies lives.

Bluebell and Buttercup would often write me a note in response for me leaving a biscuit at her front door at night. They had very similar writing to my Nan..... must be like accents - everyone sounds similar who live in a particular area, so surely people (and fairys) write in a similar way to each other?? Of course they do...

WHAT!!! Santa isnt real!!! But...But.....But who puts all my prezzies under the tree.... and who was that fat man that my wife was kissing late on Christmas eve??

My world has just fallen apart, why didnt anyone ever tell me that he wasnt real, i'm now almost 40 and had to find out like this!!!!

Next you will be telling me that the Easter bunny also isnt real

Don't listen to them level! They're all naughty boys and girls and are telling big fat fibs. They'll all get coal this year. Just put your fingers in your ears, close your eyes, and all the naughty people will go away!!

And of course he's real. You only have to see the two documentaries - "Santa Claus the Movie" and "Polar Express" to see that.

with my DS i did not have th santa talk as he was the youngest, I only did it witht he three older DD to keep the magic of santa alive for their younger siblings

How can we not believe when we see the wonders that the christmas spirit can bring, friendly people etc.
keep the magic as long as possible but certainly before BIG school.

My husband is the 2nd of 7 children and when he was about 14 he had a chat with his dad as he was concerned that his mum who was well into her 40's still truely believed!! Dad kindly reminded him that he had 5 younger siblings so ofcourse she still believed. She is now almost 90 and still loves the magic that christmas brings.

There is no "age". Its whenever they work it out for themselves and thats at school time - so 5-7ish?. But you need to keep an eye on things in case they work it out and tell younger siblings before they discuss it with you!
:eek::eek: my DD is 5yr old, and is convinced, he's real, id say more 10 ish, before the go high school, you've just go to convince them he is real.
