I haven't really used the full functionality of my Garmin yet :o. I just use it to see how far I ran and to time my runs. Oh, and I have it set to beep at each mile, so I can keep a general tally of my distance as I go along.

I can see I'll have to sit down and spend some time getting to know it properly.

That's what I've started to do Chick; up until now I'd just used it to monitor my pace and keep track of distance so now I've got a new schedule I'm trying out new functions.

When I set the VP up for this morning I was hoping that it would beep at me every time I dropped below 09:15/mile but I couldn't have programmed it properly. It doesn't help that it's dark when I run so I can't see the screen unless I'm under a streetlight anyway. :o

Don't worry Becky I'm sure that as my mileage starts building again my speed will naturally slow. I've had a lazy couple of weeks so it was fun to push a bit this morning.

Yes feeling much better thank you. Getting a bit fed up with my times as I don't seem to be progressing despite the range of training, now will be interrupted again by dh going away.

Hello BT - of course I meant 'sprinting' for distance runners - i.e. short bursts of faster stuff than usual ;)

    Hi! :hello:

I know, I just wanted to clarify for others really.;) Advice on sprinting found on the internet can be ignored by distance runners!

You're probably just 'stuck' :o, I was there for about 6 weeks on 8 mins/mile for intervals then went straight down to 7:39 and 7:17 - its annoying but it happens to all of us sadly - trick is to perserve (which is tough) and make sure you look at progress over six months rather than 6 weeks or so because then you feel less fed up!

Do you have detailed stuff going back that far? And its not just speed - dont forget you upped distance recently by a lot so that is progress in itself!

Yeah I've got about 3 months worth of training logs so you're right about the distance but I still seem to plod even when I think I'm going faster. I blame dh for going away :D and obviously my cold didn't help.

Should stop moaning really as I am really pleased with how the marathon training did go over all.

Nothing wrong with a bit of whinging - or as Rich calls it my wph - whinge per hour rate! :p
  • Hi all :) Just popping by as I haven't been on here for ages! Last time I was here a few months ago I was preparing for my first 10K, the Herts 10K, which took place (finally!) 2 weeks ago. I managed a sub 1 hour time which was quite good considering the major congestion problems during the first 6Ks. I've given myself a 2 week holiday from running since then but I'm now back and raring to go! I enjoyed the Herts 10K so much that I immediately signed up for another local 10K on the 22nd Nov, the Willow 10K. So I've now got 3 weeks to build up my training again and hopefully beat my first 10K race time by a few mins at least. First thing first, I need to invest in some reflective running gear for evening running. Any recommendations for online stores?
  • Hi miss_cupcake and well done on your 10k :T
I tend to use Sweatshop online for most of my purchases as I've found them to be very efficient. They dispatch items very quickly, enclose a label for returning goods free of charge if you're not happy with them and refund quickly for items returned. Best of all ..... once you've bought something from them they email you money saving offers from time to time - free postage is a favourite of mine!!

Here evab have a dodgy hug not-tagged-smiley-14560.gif you sound a bit fedup!

Thanks simply, I'm ok really perhaps expecting too much after 3 weeks of not feeling well - patience is not one of my strengths!

One more run tomorrow then a rest day Friday, will have to fit in whatever I can for the next 2 weeks then I've got a 3 week plan to take me to 6th December. After that there shouldn't be any interruptions so I should have a good couple of months training for the next planned event at the beginning of Feb (10km).

Are you all set for Saturday night :D
  • Glad you're ok evab; I can understand what you mean about being impatient but you really were quite poorly so it is going to take time. :D

I'm looking forward to the run on Saturday - it will be a bit of light relief after all the marathon training. I'm a bit concerned about running off road in the dark so will take it very carefully, I don't want to pick up any injuries. I'll try to get my OH to take some photos - we should look quite a sight with skeleton t-shirts and headtorches :rotfl:
