Eeek! It says if I'm aiming for a 45min 10K (and a 21:40 5k) I should run the marathon in 3:31:11. I think a more sensible target for me would be 3:45, as it's my first mara! Even that's sounding pretty amitious in my head!Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0

Yep, the equations will hold good up to 1/2 marathon, but there are just too many unknowns in your first marathon to be able to predict that accurately.
With a few under your belt, the general idea of 2x 1/2 marathon time + 10 minutes is usually close to the mark.
In Blackpool this year (which was my first for a long time) the result equated to 2x 1/2 marathon time (at that time) + 17 minutes.
If you manage a 21:40 5K you should be able to do a 1:37ish half ..... so 3:45 would seem reasonable from that. That would be 2x 1/2 marathon time + 31 minutes.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
Blackpool Marathon 11/4/2010 (Target=2:59:59) (6:52/mile)
Abingdon Marathon 17/10/2010, (Target=2:48:57) (6:27/mile)

Cool, thanks again. I'm beginning to realise that my 21:00 time on Crispy's challenge is also more ambitious than I realised at first!Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -
Dont worry mine is 22 mins and that is very tough - prob about the same considering your pb is better than mine0

So what you're both saying to me is: grow a pair an deliver on your time!
Understood loud and clear! It should be achievable, given that I'm just under 55% WAVA at the moment, so plenty of room for improvement! I'm still going for a 3:45 mara though, as that needs to be delivered in April :eek:Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -
I also think when planning times for marathons its good to work off your training pace currently rather than a planned pace for a distance.
You may find 45 mins for 10k is a good 6 months+ away if you trained for 10k specifically, but because you will be marathon training you probably wont get so many speed improvements...basically last time I was almost as fast as now, except the long runs I was running at 10:30 mins/mile ish and my marathon time turned out to be 10:21 mins/mile.
Now however, I'm not that much faster over 5k but I can run 19 miles at 9:37 so taking into account tapering I should drop to 9:27 keeping as I am now - so I am only looking to improve by 17 seconds a mile over the next 15 weeks - but thats a lot over 26 miles - does that make sense??0 -
Just did mine on the best 5k time I've done. I should be able to do 4miles in 34mins and my best so far is 38 I think.
I'm at home filling my bin with used tissues...:(DEBT FREE OCTOBER 2012!Proud to have dealt with my debts!0 -

No not at all - I was saying targets need to be tough - even if you miss them you will get ruddy fit in the process0
