I think Hamish is completely unique to be honest. If they feel as strong as hamish, and you dont like the way hamish makes his post's these people should be treated the same, so why arnt you calling them arsxholes?
See the bit I'm confused about is how this relates to jealousy.
I think what you are trying to say is that I'm jealous of Hamish's opinion? I'm really not sure how that works, but to make things easier all round, I'll roll with it... Yes, I'm green with envy over his opinion.0 -

Look, there are a very small minority of idiots on here who have pretty much nothing to say apart from a few sound-bites: "roll on the crash", "BTL is scum", "a house shouldn't cost more than £40k", "woop, house prices are crashing", etc.
There is also a small minority of idiots on here who have pretty much nothing to say apart from a few sound-bites: "roll on the boom", "property only goes up", "the higher the house price the better", "woop, house prices are going up", etc.
Thankfully the vast majority of posters make the range between the two and have interesting things to say, some that others will agree with, some that they won't. And that's that.0 -
Why? If you're living at home as an adult because you're lazy, or can't be bothered, then fair enough. However, a lot of people will live at home for a number of other reasons.
One friend of mine in his twenties lives at home because his Mum is ill and he wants to be there to support her. Another in their late twenties is doing their PhD so cannot afford to live away from home at the moment. Ditto another friend in their late twenties who has moved back home to do a masters, and another who works passionately for a chairty that doesn't pay much, wants to continue working for them but can't therefore get their own place.
I think laughing at people for the above reasons shows a bit of immaturity and an attitute that the only important thing in life is a 'high' paying job and owning a house. And whilst I'm not someone who thinks everyone has a divine right to a cheap house, maybe if they were a bit more affordable my friends listed in the examples above would have more options than living at home with their folks.
If I was more of a cynic Mitchaa I would conclude that your passionate posting on this subject suggests that maybe you still live with your parents.
Totally agree. This has become a very nasty and sad thread. I have never heard so much tosh spouted in all my life.
A lot of younger people have to live at home. OK, Bendix might be able to save £200 a day, hardly the norm. Mind you, we all know his minted because he nevers stops banging on about it.
Mitchaa, another one who has done very well, again having to tell us so. Strange to say that when I was his age I also was doing well for myself although I suffer from long term disability but to boast about it, how very crass.
Let me explain. I have younger members in my family that are forced to live at home. Not only can they not afford to buy in the South East, they can`t afford to rent as a single person. Not everyone has a great paying job. Just imagine if the lower paid jobs were not taken, the country would stop. Did I read that the average age of a first time buyer is 37? I am not surprised. So what if they live with there folks? Hardly a crime is it. Certainly better than forking out a huge amount of rent for some chav infested rat hole.
Just over 10 years ago you could have bought in the part of the South East I`m from a small terrace for less than £50k. Similar in a poor condition are still just less than 3 times more. Where is the sense in that?
The BOE base rate is 0.5%, that`s a cry for help. My vibrant and established business is well down as is many that I supply to. Myself and also a number of my customers are reporting turnover down by over 60%.
Don`t get too cocky guys about how well you are doing and belittle those who are not having such a good time of things. These re difficult times.0 -
Im 26, have a gorgeous wife and child
<Snip a load of cobblers>
You'll be insisting your children are all out of the house by 21 then?
You'll just tell them how you stood on your own two feet and they should do the same?
What absolute rot, you've made yourself look a real to$$er on this thread. I've had help from my parents and I'm grateful for it. I'm not embarrassed about it and like to think I'll now be doing the same both for them as they get older and my kids as they grow up.
Does your wife work? Or is she sponging off you? Will you pay your kids any pocket money or will they be up a chimney? Your whole stance is laughable.0 -
Please tell me what I have to be jealous about? No seriously what?
Im 26, have a gorgeous wife and child, a 4bed detached home worth around £250k, a £55k income, £60k worth of cars on the drive, a whole load of sociable friends, foreign holidays, massive family bladdy bladdy blah.
Mitchaa, i have a genuine question for you. Its not meant to cause arguments, be a cheap shot or anything.
If you have the above and are happy, why are you wasting your time on a house price forum? Personally if this was me i wouldn't give a damn about them and get on enjoying my life - which is what i intend to do once bought and moved in.
You can understand why i am on here - i have a genuine need to know what is happening in the market as i am a future buyer.
As you said, life is to short to be worrying about things, especially how much your house is worth.0 -

I think ordinary Joe public would have opinions about 28yr olds still living with parents, so i doubt I am the only 1. I'll leave it there as quite rightly put, its got a little childish.
Yes my wife works and brings in a good income, £100k or so between us. Im not wealthy in the slightest but we do live a fairly good comfortable lifestyle.Mitchaa, i have a genuine question for you. Its not meant to cause arguments, be a cheap shot or anything.

I stick around here mainly due to the fact that for around 12-18mths or so I and a couple of others were slated day in, day out by the MSE bear brigade. I was branded stupid for buying a house at near peak values and was slated for my very optimistic bullish views. (That have now of course turned out to be correct)
Luckily for me, the region I live in has faired well and my investment back then has proven to be of a sound 1. The house has risen during the ''worst'' recession in history and that to me is just sheer luck as so many others have had theirs drop.
I had the house valued last week as we are planning on moving and it was valued at £255k, I bought it in June 2007 for £215k with a 97% LTV. Outstanding mortgage amount just now is a smidgen under £170k, and I hope to sell for around the £245k mark. You of course do not need to know any of that, but im just illustrating that some people in the country have actually been quite lucky during all this.
So yes i do have a vested interest in property and hence why I stick around here. I was wanting to buy a 2nd property, but simply cannot afford to do so as not only has my house risen in value, every other house in the area has too. The thing is, I do believe Aberdeen and its surrounding 'shire' is now going to enter 2-3yrs of stagnation so we'll just have to wait and see
