we bought out little girl her own dolly that cried and had to be fed and needed its nappy changing and it has been a great help. my girls are 4 months any 24 months old, the only problem I have now is if my baby cries my 2 year old cries as well at the same time to see if she can get some attention.0

Nah, his dad is too scared of balloons bursting that the poor kid has never had a chance to pop one!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

I also like black saturns idea of the doll. I had a 3 year gap and everyone included my older one too. They are now at the age that b-s said hers squabbled at, and we haven't had any major problems........yet!0

we had a few small presents ready wrapped in case people came just with something for baby then we could give them something to give ds1 aswell. most of these ended up as stocking fillers though cos everyone bought him stuff aswell!
how about baby getting her a nightie / top that says big sister or something on it? ds1 loved his big brother top. maybe a matching one for baby with little sister / brother on?
ds1 was 3 last july & ds2 born in nov so he was a bit older than yours but we also gave him a disposable camera that he loved taking photos of baby & visitors (& the wall & the flor etc!) on. never did get developed as he played with it that much it got ruined. they have some in home bargains for less than £2 i think so worth it for a bit of peace.
good luck with the new baby anyway. if she's like ds1 she will love to help. he's always 1st in to baby on a morning to amuse him till i get there!Cleaning the house while children are growing is like shovelling snow when it's still snowing!0 -
When my dd2 was born, dd1 was only 23 months old. I bought her a cuddly cat. She still has it to this day (she's 7 and a half) and often reminds her sister that she brought it from Heaven fer her(bless).
When ds came along last year, the girls were that much bigger, so he brought them a new scooter each.
i DON'T THINK YOU SHOULD ASK PEOPLE to bring presents for your older child, but make sure while they're making a fuss of the baby, that you devote your attention to your dd1.0 -
I bought my little girl who was 2.5, a megasketcher from her baby sister, it was the only thing that i thought she would have for ages that she would use.
I was right daughter now 7 in August, and her sister is 4 in 2 weeks, and I love to see them play school, as they draw a register an tick off names on the megsketcher.
It is the only toy that has survived the test of time, and still looks brand new!
They use it constantly every day!

I like the idea of the doll. Another suggestion: I noticed Woolworths have dress-up costumes which were about £10.0

no 3 child is due for me this Friday and we have bought a large brightly coloured bag each for the other 2 kids (age 4 and 3) and filled with little things like sweeties, pens, socks, - I am waiting for them to ask if the baby got them in my tummy!!0

My little girl (well shes 11 now) was just 3 when he little brother was born. I'd bought her a winnie pooh jigsaw from her new baby brother before he was born and put it in my suitcase for the hospital so when she came to visit for the first time she had a gift from him.
She wasn't interested, all she wanted was to kiss her baby brother, i'm filling up just telling you. One thing i will never forget is the look on her face when she came into the room ran up to me, put her arms round my neck to hug me and as she put her head on my shoulder she saw her baby brother laid in the crib next to the bed.
"is that my baby brother mummy??" she ran round the bed took his hand and smiled like i'd never seen her smile before. She was so happy, she didn't care about the pooh jigsaws

As for gifts she did get some from other people but when she didn't i use to ask her if she wanted to open her baby brothers presents for him cos he was far too small to do it himself. I had spoke to her and showed her some of the gifts she got when she was born before her brother was born.
One thing i found to be a problem was people visiting and or even looking in the pram when we were out saying to my little girl "can we take your little brother home?" or "we're gonna knick your borther hes lovely"
I taught her to tell them to get one of their own cos he was ours
