Lump on cat-possibly caused by boosters???

To answer a question you asked: Yes it's perfectly possible the cat has never reacted before but has this time - the vet could have started using a different brand which may have ever so slight different make up and it could be enough to start it - it may also just be luck of the draw - please don't panic about cancer just yet - it's very rare (as often mentioned I have a friend who's a vet and in a VERY large surgery they have seen less than a handful between all the vets EVER (we're talking 6 vets and some are getting close to retirement
).... I'd call that a jolly small risk

And this is why the net can be so dangerous.
As Kvet says, a reaction at the injection site is perfectly viable after this length of time - Ive noticed them come up on my dog now and then after hes had shots.
The thing is you are still not convinced and are worrying yourself sick (reading articles on the net isnt helping your fears either although totally understandable as to why you are doing it) so my advice - take yourself and the cat down to the vets, get him checked and give yourself peace of mind today
Its what people do with information that is dangerous.0 -
With all due respect that is like saying "thats why bookshops are dangerous" or "thats why libraries are dangerous". It has nothing whatsoever to do with where the information came from.

Not everyone can get published, so most books will be either intentionally fictional or contain educated opinion/ factual information. Any lunatic can, and frequently does, write all sorts of rubbish dressed up as fact and publish it on the net.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

Jeez
I meant it to be that you can find all sorts of information on the net and convince yourself you ( or in this case the cat) has all sorts of nasty illnesses. Before the "net" people with sick animals took their animals to the vet, heard the diagnosis and trusted the vet. Nowadays its " well Im sure the nice totally unqualified people Ive never met on a forum will know better" and they post and get their worse fears confirmed by others who are not qualified in veterinary medicine quoting from websites
Already the OPS vet and the boards resident vet have tried to calm the OP's fears yet still people are posting information gleaned from the net - none of whom are medically qualified, which is why no medical advice should be asked for or given on any of the boards on this site0 -
Just to update, i called the vets last night and they said once again to leave it a couple more days, so i have made an appointment for monday (which i shall obviously call and cancel if lump disapears over weekend.) This way she can also see her usual vet, who knows all about her history etc.
Just to join in with the debate above (!) i have appreciated all answers and they have not sent me into a panic (im one of those people who wouldve looked on the net anyway) and im not intending to take anyones answer and advice above that from the vet. The orginal point of posting was not to get medical advice, just to see if anyones cat had, had a similar reaction to their boosters.
Thanks again for all the replys.0 -
Both my cats reacted tho their boosters for the first time last year and a lump appeared more than a week after the jabs. The lumps took a couple of weeks to disappear but left no other problems.

My youngest cat had something similar happen when i restarted his injections, when I went back for the 2nd one they gave him a steriod jab first & was fine that time. Don't think you've much to worry about althou some of the stuff in this thread is scary.0

The reality is that NO medication, veterinary or otherwise is completely without risk or possible side effects. For example cats can react to steroids by developing diabetes ( am shuffling glucose meters as I write because this has happened to my cat)0

I definately agree with this, as i had 1st hand experiance with my dog, one of the pain medications caused a stomach problem, which made his stomach bleed. But i guess this is just unlucky and as you say also happens to humans.
UPDATE
Took cat to vet, they wanted to preform a blood test. Blood test results back today and showed a raised level of white blood cells. Asked what this might mean and was told "it could mean lots of things" and to bring the cat back in tomorrow : (
Now im no expert, but am pretty sure in humans, main cause of this is an infection which the body is trying to fight off, or some cancers (leukimea-spelling wrong i no, springs to mind) so id imagine the same is true in cats?
Trying not to worry, as it may still be nothing, but is looking slightly more sinister.0 -
when my cat had cancer it was a concern when her white blood cell count was low...but i am not sure what a high count would indicate. i hope it is one of the harmless things x0
