I consider myself OS but would be happy to be on DFW as lurkers might happen across us, be encouraged and join in when they see the light.

I'm another who has never heard of the how much have you saved thread. If I was in debt I wouldn't be looking there

Hope you're feeling better soon, SFT, I know you'll battle through anything to make the next 3 years count towards what you really, really want. Being in the cottage is one major step that proves it's all possible. :)

Congratulations on your DH's saving's for his OU course, Whitewing! :D You'll need to update us on when frugalmite is expected to arrive. :)

Well done getting the place on your course, FrankieM! :T

Thanks for all the feedback on where the 2010 challenge should go, I never realised it would cause any problems and can do nothing about it as we're at the mercy of the MSE board guides. Who'd have thought that year 3 would become subject to the scrutinies of the 'forum patrol'. I prefer to think of it more as a reflection on all your successes than anything else, because we're ostracizing debt from our frugal community! :rotfl:

Chickies have decided to take ownership of the garden seat , BB is on the highest perch as usual :)
Yes I was well entertained and educated over the morning cuppa today, thanks to Nyk's DGD. Having a lazy day here today not much planned just enjoying the simple stuff in life - cuppas with the neighbour, chickens, open fire, sheep watching, restocking bird feeder, bird watching, planting some garlic, harvesting the last of the spring onions to make a quiche, and maybe doing a little baking later. Enjoy the day everyone.

SM - Can I add your name to the list of 2010 challengers? It's OK, we got kicked off OS so you won't need to post there afterall. :rotfl:

UPDATE - This is the challenger list for 2010 as it now stands. If anyone's name isn't on it that should be on it, please let me know in BIG, BOLD, COLOURFUL LETTERS so I can spot the post and add your name. Thanks :) In the meantime, keep posting here until the next challenge begins. By then we should know for sure where they've put us.

  • Been to the pool this morning for number 1 trial of 2 before our lessons start in January!!! So exciting imagining the pool full of swimmers at a swim school i am running arghhhhhh - and all thanks to the money i have been able to save due to this challenge (needed to invest to start business!!)

Loving my new car too as it has a lil computer that tells me how many miles left before my petrol runs out - means i can streeeeeeeeeeetch my petrol budget he he. Kids are bored so going to get them wrapped up mega warm in a bit and walk to the park - when there will get networking for the business he he

Lunch was left-over mash and chicken with added cheese and fried plus some left-over pasta and sauce KIDS LOVED IT lol

    Hope everyone well!
DFW since JAN 2009 - 2014 will be the year i finally clear debts :) Just to see which month :))))

Lingo, from what I understand a tent would be fine - that was going to be my preferred choice of accommodation ;) I am happy to travel up with people, to make the whole trip part of the party :D - I had considered driving but think I will take the train as it is a long way (it would probably be cheaper to fly )
I would definitely go by train, if we're organised enough in advance for the really cheap seats it'll be ok.

Thanks again to whoever posted the link about the buyagift offers - mine all arrived today! :T

Thankfully I've never been 'homeless' before so this is an experience for me :D The thread the PTB are suggesting sounds more for personal reflection than the "community" we have here. Admittedly I haven't looked there yet & surely, if I as a postee with a possible future interest to an area hasn't been for a scout around, how on earth are newbies going to find this thread
As to my budget--can we change the subject sad-smiley-012.gif My trial run on the GC has shown I seriously under-estimated how much we actually need to live on so some vigorous number-crunching a-gain once I get these meds out of my system. I'd forgotten how a combination of steroids & antibiotics can wipe your memory SIZE=1]& digestive tract[/SIZE of anything useful :o
As to the Frugathering; I know when I was looking at public transport to get up Inverness way it was much cheaper to go by road & took very similar time to get there. I think the coaches were around £80 return with collection/drop off around 7miles at most from where I wanted to be, where the rail was another £100 & I would need a 75 mile connection from this end & a two hour car journey at the other speechless-smiley-012.gif I know there would be more freedom to have a wander around the carriage to use the loo or buffet etc, but as I'm probably travelling alone what would I do with my luggage? I can't recall seeing secure 'guards vans' on the trains as they whizz past the crossings. I'm worried tho of feeling claustrophobic if I'm restricted to a window seat for 12 hours, barring comfort stops. Oh decisions decisions...every day there's nothing but
bluddin decisions on something ......I don't like being a grown-up just now :undecided

Following Nyk's recent meal from the garden challenge I decided to try and get enough bits of last pick of the veggies to make a quiche for lunch tomorrow. I already have 3 eggs from the chickies in the kitchen and managed to find spring onions, onions ,spinach and another egg:) in the garden. So just pastry to make from stores and some of my 20p whoopsied cheese from freezer and that's the quiche sorted :j

  • I like the meal from the garden idea!!! Right tomorrow i am doing that - i have 8 hens eggs - 1 large yellow pepper (still on the plant lol) - some new potatoes (i dug up a couple weeks ago) - some rocket leaves which i will stir fry and some turnip (will pick one later and boil then fry) = a yummy and filling omlette for all 5 of us and 100% from the garden!!!!

Must get to lottie and check on brussels, caul adn purple sprouting broccoli plus the cabbage i have in and turnip. Been too cold and not been for about 3 weeks SHAMEFUL!!! I must say the tomatoes my lottie neighbour gave me end AUG/Sept are doing really well. Look like beef ones to me and have one on windowsill with half size beef matoes but green and 2 at bottom of garden still. Doing well but then not sooooooo cold here. Need to get cold frame fixed up as roof came off thanks to toddler sitting on it and greenhouse needs some sort of fixing up to protect those tomatoes (blew to pieces in the winds.)

Mine has one of those, and I'd advise caution in relying on it too much.......

If you watch it as you drive around you will almost certainly see the number increase at times, as it's calculated on your average driving conditions over the last so many miles. A couple of times I've had mine tell me a half tank will give me another 500 miles, but a full tank will only do 400-450
