DGD also helped plant the garlic for next year, so that was another good job done. We spied a few bits and pieces that could still make a meal, so there could be another garden meal mini challenge coming up soon. :) I'm guessing it'll involve eggs, chard, potatoes, somewhere and err, beetroot and turnip. LOL

Nyk-Mr SFT is telling me he can plant garlic cloves in the garden? Is that right? If so I'll get him to start planting now.

Mr SFT is correct:D just plant cloves a couple of inches deep with the pointy end up. :) now is the time to get them in quick before the first real frosts. :) Garlic planting in both frugaldom households today :)

How much garlic will you use?
If it grows successfully you will get a bulb of garlic for every clove you plant. I planted 30 + cloves today,Nyk's will have been a similar amount as we shared a pack of garlic bulbs to get started. :)

    Good morning everyone :)

I'm up nice and early today as I need to be productive today - I have my essay to finish, and I'm really struggling with it so I've got all day to work on it, and get it done well. Its due tomorrow  The washing is already in the laundrette - I've decided this is the time to go as there was no one else using them! Normally you have to queue, so sunday mornings on campus is the time when most people are sleeping :p

I've had 5 nsds this week, yesterday I met a friend for the day, so I spent about £20 there. It was really nice to see her though, and had a good day :) I've just spent £3 on the laundrette and that should be it for today :) Can't believe its December on tuesday!

Hope everyone has a good day, I'll probably be back on later.

    Good morning frugal friends :D

We don't use an awful lot of garlic here but I have planted 4 or 5 cloves each into 3 planters and will plant another dozen or so in the square foot garden as it seemed to provide me with the biggest success as far as planting was concerned. I reckon I could have had plenty more out of it had I been more dedicated to the project. Unfortunately, I kind of lost the plot a bit (pardon the pun) whilst preparing for DD's wedding. Hopefully, the SFG will be more productive throughout 2010. We have some sleepers to place around the edges so it can be made a bit deeper, but haven't had the weather or the man power to move these yet.

I tried to sneak out to attend to chickens and ducks before DGD got up this morning, however, as I was chatting over the fence to Mr SF, who should come skipping along the back garden? You got it! She'd decided she would prefer to come and look for eggs. At least she was more suitably attired this time. :rotfl: I did take a picture of her 'alien' carrot that she said, "looked like the bit of a cow that's on it's legs", see what you think... :rotfl:

Mr SFT will plant it in one of our freshly dugs plots on the agricultural land next to the field. He's decided to plant 24 cloves. We use garlic in pasta sauces. Thanks for the advice SM and Nyk aka the frugaldom twins

Miserable day here. Very drizzly. Not feeling too bad. Might make it to school tomorrow however it might benefit me more if I recovered properly (something I never do and hence spend far longer suffering from any flu I incur). Supply teacher is in place.

Going to have a nice hot bath then make our way to T*ptree to buy the Christmas puds. Will pop into Mr T to buy some razors on offer (getting next year's supply). Back for lunch then over to Mum and Dad's.

    Will pop in later.

Hope you all enjoy a lovely sunny day.

Hi guys, as suggested by Penelope Penguin, who is unable to move the new challenge thread over to DFW diaries, I've just heard back after submitting my request to the board guides on the 'How much money have you saved' forum - here's the response:

"I'm not a Board Guide anymore but it looks like MSE haven't taken my name off the forum. I've tried to forward your message to Jo_b who is the BG on there now but her inbox is full. I suggest you send your request to [Removed by Forum Team] and they will have a look when they see it."

What should I do? My only problem with where we are located for 2010 is that it's still asking HOW MUCH HAVE WE SAVED and my answer is NOT A LOT because this really is how I live and it isn't as a direct result of having read the MSE website, which is what's inferred by the sticky in that particular section (unless I'm reading it wrong). I've been spending time reading some of the threads (still reading) and we really do not fall into any of the categories I have seen so far. If anyone has any spare time, please search around and see where YOU would list a frugal living challenge thread. Thanks guys. :o

In an ideal world I think that there should be a 'challenges' board set up, with ALL challenges moved onto it from the other boards. There are so many challenges scattered all over the boards that it is very easy to miss them. I have no idea if the powers that be would be interested in such an idea though.

TBH there isn't any one existing board which 'fits' everything from this challenge. For all of us who have aready found and bookmarked it, I guess it makes no difference where it is. I certainly won't be jotting down amounts that have been saved as that is NOT what I feel this thread is about. Anything I 'save' by doing this challenge will be as a result of lifestyle choice and not a direct result of the (very good) advice on this website ......

However newbies will be much less likely to find and join us stuck out on 'how much have you saved', which I can't see benefitting anyone. This thread has proved immensly popular for over 2 years now and should be viewed as the asset that it is by the 'powers that be' for the traffic it generates (seeing as they seem bothered by this)
