I think Ms_London might have been referring to my post (although I'm sure there are others going through the same thing)!.

There are a lot of people in a similiar situation to you!! I didnt mean anything by it. Its not just being single, but also having a family/people dependent on you. Its easier for me because my time is my own so I can do 2 jobs & if I dont need to spend money, nothing unforeseen comes up, because its just me!! I am unhappily single though if that makes anyone feel better  !! :D

Now I just have to watch out in case men are after my money :rotfl: :rotfl: !!

When are you taking me out anyway? ;):p

I'm apprehensive about playing the field again because of my debts. I can't afford to do anything as it is, let alone go and dates and all that crap!

Might sound selfish but I'd rather spend the money on my debts than someone else! Unless it was a page 3 girl then I could be persuaded to get the credit cards out again! :rotfl:

My first marriage broke after 2 years of no communication/proper relationship etc going into it's 14th year. The current Mrs M has been incredibly supportive & has helped me out no end with the huge debts that were part of my baggage. Without her I really think I would have gone down the bankruptsy route. It did take me a couple of months though to pluck up the courage to confess all. Now I'm within sight of my DFD (May 2008) & when I am she'll be treated like a Queen! No borrowing of course.

I split from my girlfriend recently over my financial problems.

I was with my first partner for 10 years and we have a beautiful daughter together. When I left I did as brranger did and gave her a lot of money a month for the first year to make sure my daughter never went without. It meant that my income just covered my outgoings and making the most of single life went on cards and loans. I was single for 9 months and on my last night out before knickling down to pay my debts I met and fell in love with Kim. She was the best and worst thing that could have happened to me. She had 2 young children and was on benefits so did not work. My plan to clear my debts went out the window. I pulled out all the stops to make Kim happy, I couldn't believe this wonderful woman was with me so I made sure I enjoyed every moment with her, my debts got much bigger.

She new I had debt (approx 3k) when we met but did not know I was living off cards to "be with her". After 6 months together I told her of my problems. I cut back a lot but was still living off cards.

My debt was really getting me down and we argued a lot. Part of me was looking for a way out of the relationship to clear my debt, I blew arguements out of proportion in the hope she would end it. I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her but deep down knew that with her not working and my debts we could not have a future. She is living in appauling private rented accomodation and was desperate to get out. I was not able to provide for her so after 15 months together we split.

She begged me to take her back and I said no, I was really cold and was convinced it was best for the both of us. After a couple of weeks apart I realised my mistake and tried to get back with her. She told me she wanted nothing more to do with me.

I look back at the way I behaved and it scares me. I would never been that irrational had I not been in such a financial mess.

The outcome is I have lost Kim, someone I loved so much, and have debts of around 12k.

I cannot afford to be in a relationship for the next 4 years while I clear my debts but I am so lonely right now.

Don't laugh, but I didn't consider taking on a serious relationship without seeing the guys credit report.
Luckily, my husband proved right from the start that he was sensible with money. But I was working soooo hard at being financially independent I couldn't let anything get in the way. It sounds heartless as I write it, but I think it spared me a great deal of grief that my friends experienced. I manage most of our finances & my OH & I discuss all purchases. We don't have to, & I could imagine some people would hate that, but both of us spent alot of time on our own, so we relish the idea of reporting back to a spouse. Here I am, married two years, & I still get a kick out of saying "I'll need to discuss with my husband first". Sisters, dont kill me.
