Good news Shez, give him an extra cuddle from me.0

Hi everyone - I'm back! I've already lost the connection once this morning so I don't fully trust it at the moment - if I don't post again for a while, it will be because the connection has gone down again!
Thank you all SO much for being concerned about my whereabouts. As you know, we had the most spectacular storm on Saturday night; we thought the roof was going to come off at any moment and it was quite scary but, luckily, we suffered very little damage compared to the next-door department, the Vendee, where some poor people died. It was bad enough here - it must have been awful there. We lost some branches on our very elderly willow tree and, in the surrounding area, a few trees and advertising boards have come down, but really we've been very lucky. The power must have gone in the night because all our electric clocks needed resetting in the morning, but the phone was dead so we lost the internet, too, because it is connected via Livebox. The phone was restored on Wednesday. After many phone calls to the IP, Orange, during which I had to test the Livebox on another computer (luckily, I still have a very old one which was packed away in a dark corner of the attic and meant moving loads of boxes), then buy a new cable (which it turns out I didn't need, but which, because it was shorter than the old one, meant rearranging the entire room to get it closer to the Livebox!), it was decided to replace the Livebox, so we were able to call in at the Orange shop yesterday afternoon and do a direct exchange. Last night, after several attempts to re-install the Livebox, and a panicky phone call to our wonderful Jean, I finally managed to get back online at around midnight! Then I found I had mistakenly installed 'parental control', which seems to think that MSE is undesirable, so I had to uninstall that and now, here I am at last!
Thanks to Jean for her persistence in trying to contact me during my absence – it was very reassuring to hear her lovely voice the other night when she finally got through! Jean, you deserve a medal for persistence!
I must admit, having had a terrible time getting connected to the phone and internet when we first moved here, the helpline here has really improved in the last year, and I have spoken to several very handsome-sounding French men who have been as helpful as they could be. One is even going to phone back this afternoon to check that I have got back online. The only downside is that I have to wait for the Livebox to connect to the phone that gives me free calls. They’ve said that will take up to 48 hours, so I can receive incoming calls but not make any outgoing ones until then.
Luckily, I could use my mobile to text the family because I knew they’d be panicking when they heard the news about the storm.
Anyway, yet another saga as we ‘live the dream’ here in France! I really hope things settle down for a while!
I have skimmed the last few days of posts here but will go back and have a proper look later.
Chalky – I love the puppies and the beautifully bonkers photos of them! You’ve done really well to get them all finished, I’m sure they’ll be well and truly loved to bits by the lucky little ones who get them!
ISOM – Isoke looks really gorgeous!
Maytaurus - hope life is well with you.
(((Hugs))) to all who need them.
Well, I really hope that you are all keeping well.
Once again, thanks to Jean for contacting me and, also, for taking care of the update for me – I know she hates being thanked but I still want to say it!
Will call back later – off for another cuppa before I face another day here in this strange corner of the world!

Hi
Good to have you back Kathy. We've missed you :-)
Glad the doggie is getting better Shez. Our soppy Rottie has a growth on his leg that is not looking nice, so he has a vet visit on Monday. His master from Cardiff is here that day, so he can take him. Rottie and vets are not he best of friends, neither is Rottie and other dogs ???!!! The vet has kindly arranged for the visist to be when the surgery will be empty !! He will have to be muzzled, which he hates :-(
My youngest had a big nose bleed last night at 10.30pm, then another at 4.30 this morning :-( Seems to have stopped now. Poor lass.
No knitting done yesterday. Bad organisation of time lol. I did get the choc chip muffins made though, which were gleefully gobbled up for breakfast by some of the hungry lot lol. My youngest exclaimed "they look just like Tesco's ones. They cost 72p each. Tastes like the professional ones as well" lol. A liitle later she said about them again and I said it probably cost me the same to make twelve as it would buying just one of Tesco's, she said I ought to sell them at the the front gate as people went by lol. Got a little enterprizer in the making I think lol.
Last night I started a course to help pregnant girls/ladies who might be having difficulties. i.e. teenage pregnancy etc. After the course, which is twelve weeks, if I pass, I should be able to be an advisor. I shall probably go on and take the next course, so that I can help ladies who have miscarried (I lost twins in 1979, I was 5 1\2 wks pregnant when I lost them) and I lost a baby in 2005, I was 10wks gone with that one. Our pastors wife asked whether I'd like to do the course, and it seemed right to do so, so I went last night and can't wait till the next one next week :-)
Also I was sat there thinking of all the baby clothes I could knit for these new pregnant ladies I'll come across :-) lol. I'll have to be better organised though :-)
Anyway. have a blessed and prosperous day all of you. Hugs to all in need ((((hugs)))) Love you all.

Good morning everyone.
Good to see you back safe and sound Kathy.
Hope your Mum's ok ISOM, nice to have such good friends.
Salome the best of luck with Rottie at the vet's, sounds like a good title for a story!
Nice to see you maytaurus, hope you're a little better.
Lots of love to everyone xxx0 -
Thank you all so much for the welcome back! I've missed you so much - it feels great to be back, I just hope it lasts!
Salome - good luck to your Rottie. And good luck with what sounds like a great course; you'll be just perfect for it. So sorry you've had such a lot of sadness in your life.
Thanks for the lovely pic Maytaurus - hope you are having a good day.
Well, needless to say, the renovation work is still ongoing, so I have to go out and get some bags of plaster in a minute. I've done some more squares and will count them up later and update my sig.
See you all later.

IISOM - is the gum shield because you are taking up BOXING? ha ha
Mioliere - knew if I sat with my fingers and toes crossed for long enough you would get back on line.
I am not allowed into the work room just yet. For what seems like the first time ever DH is clearing up after himself - don't get me wrong, he is usually in such a rush to get away back to work that he doesn't have time to put all the tools etc away. So in honour of this occasion I did him a fried breakfast (heart attack to follow!) and I have just finished the ironing. So feel really chuffed with myself, no doubt the brown stuff will hit the extractor later in the day! Off to see who I can annoy now - my sister seems favourite at present. Back in a bit
