Moving more threads to DFW Diaries

  • The concern for me with moving the challenges etc. is the same as with the diaries. There are less 'old hands' around to give advice. A lot of the entries on posts are purely support, which while brilliant in itself may not be what is needed in all cases.

But a lot of posters have gone away because they got so fed up with the challenges hogging the front page :) I for one rarely make it on to page 2 and occassionally skim page 3 and 4 for any obvious spam. With the challenges on their own sub board you may find a lot of regulars (myself included) return to give advice again... I just haven't the time or inclanation to try and locate individual posts amounts endless challenges and chat based threads...

It is a simple fact that if a newby appeals for help at 8.00 am in the morning their post if not answered quickly will be on page 2 by 10.00am and page 3 by the evening of that day.
I am one of those who tries to offer help and/or encouragement and it is difficult to find those who are asking for help without trawling pages 2,3,4 and 5.

I don't offer any easy answer but those are the facts as I see them.

Hiya - I know what everyone is saying about losing people over the edge of a page and them being forgotten - that's something that does have to be addressed. Dunno what the compromise is..........goodluck with that! Maybe NEWBIES need a special colour or something like that for their first thread starts to make them stand out (in a good way!!).

I think the feeling from some on the alcohol support thread is that debt and alcohol issues are often inter-related and newbies or anyone else looking for a bit of support with alcohol wouldnt necessarily wander over to a challenges/diary board.

Alot of us read the boards along time before getting brave enough to start posting. As a newbie last year finding and reading that support thread has had a marked impact on my own attitude towards alcohol and overall its effects.

Tis only my opinon though - as a newbie I wouldn't have had the slightest clue about the culture surrounding DFW and lots of folks tackling their debt using a diary etc so I would have missed lots of key things like PAD, and the alcohol support thread.
Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

    Thanks Fay.

The vast majority of threads are merely chat threads.

Then to me that poses other sub board possibilities, not to split us up to much, but it might help keep things clear. If the whole place is wrapped under Debt without a board (like Pure Money), and make 4 sub-board instead?
I feel more people are not just admitting to debt but trying to tackle it head on. And 20/25 slots for threads is not going to be enough, as said a 8am post could be as far as page 5 by the evening.

Example thread Post at 6.55PM Today, by 9.20PM Today it was at the bottom of page 3 already.

Main Debt Board (Debt Free Wannabe...)
    Sub Boards
    - Debt Diary
    - Getting out of Debt Challenges (alternative names - Debt Reduction Challenges)
    - Getting out of Debt Advice
    - Debt Support (alternative names - Debt related support, Debt Samaritans)

From this, maybe advice on other forums could be to sign up to some DRC's 'Debt Reduction Challenges'. For those wanting a rant or a friend to listen then Debt Support board would be the place to go. Etc.

  • Hi, would just like to say that when i first came across this site it was the diaries that i was drawn to, just that feeling of not being the 'only one ' and really relating to other peoples stories inspired me. I dont post often but read every day and i have to admit that since the diaries have moved i havent read any. This thread made me go and have a read and i indulged in the joyous tales of In my dreams and it reminded me just how important these diaries are. I agree that the board does soon get clogged up with challenges and chat threads and it is hard to find the people that are often desperate for advice. I think probably sub boards are the only way to do it but maybe highlighted more and with clearer directions. The site is a very busy one anyway and some people may be put off, which is a real shame because it is fantastic and has some brilliant advice offered from people who regularly take time to trawl through and help folks.

Whatever you do with the different types of thread, I think you should have an emergency/SOS type thread right at the top somewhere for first time posters to ask for help. That way everyone would see it and they would get more responses.

Can't the threads by MSE Andrea that's a sticky and the sticky by Southern Scouser by merged? I think MSE Andrea refers to SS's so maybe his could be unstickied? or one joined to the other somehow?
Also agree with everyone - it's a tricky thing to do to split everything but there are some threads that could probably me moved over to diaries now.

Apologies if this has already been said or I'm missing the point or something, but wouldn't it just be easier to have 3 sections - one for debt queries, one for debt diaries and one for debt challenges / daily chats?

It is a nightmare now to find any of the daily challenges amongst the diaries.
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x
