LPG conversion :)
Hi all,
Just wanted to let you know that I had my car converted to LPG at the beginning of the year, and I've saved a bundle of cash - it's literally half the price! Got mine done really reasonably at Greenfuel - I highly recommend it
Have made my money back on the conversion already, and got a reduction on my road tax to boot!:T

You were able to get your car reclassified? Sounds interesting.
What was the car? What age is it?
What was the conversion costs?
Did you declare the change to your insurer?
Where's the tank fitted?
Who certified the system? the installer?
How many miles have you done since the conversion?
Thanks in advance.0 -

Glad I wasn't the only one doubting this thread... and had a feeling it was blatant advertising!
Only factory supplied LPG vehicles are exempt from paying to go into the capital. I know none of the other 'benefits' of changing to LPG apart from running costs. If conversion is done badly it can really muck up your car!! That I do know!Genie

Hi,
I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and was recommended to a company by a friend of mine. It cost me £1800 + vat (which is a little bit more than some other people were quoting) but they have a good reputation and have done an extremely good job.
The tank has gone underneath the boot floor and taken the place of the spare wheel.
They sorted out my insurance company for me which was very helpful and i have done just over 12,000 miles since and i calculate that i've saved about £1500 so far :j. The car is 7 years old but i'm going to keep it for a while seeing as it's now so much cheaper to run.
The company is called Greenfuel. They had branches nationwide although i'm not sure where exactly they are!! i had mine done in Bath, Somerset.
I dont know if i can post links without getting in trouble but if you type greenfuel into google, they are somehwere near the top.
hope that helps?0 -
JeannieBlue,
my car has been re-registered with the DVLA and now has cheaper road tax. It is also congestion charge exempt (although i will never use it!).0 -
12000 miles @30 mpg is 400 gallons or 1820 litres (30 MPG is probably generous)
current costs are 103.9 litre
LPG 0.5 per litre?
Petrol costs £1890.98
LPG costs £910 (cheaper if under £0.50)
Roughly.
LPG conversion cost £2070
When I was going to LPG a 1992 rangerover, reclassifying was down to age. Cant remember the age so cant comment.
Find it strange a company can deal with your insurer direct.0 -
i can tell you that the car does 17mpg as thats what it says on the display.
I pay 48p for LPG with a local countrywide store.
i gave my insurance company permission to speak to them so they could sort the paperwork for me.
I'm a little uncomfortable with this already as people think i'm advertising so i probably shouldnt say any more!0 -
Just trying to ensure the figures add up. I'm all diesel now and you can LPG them too to ensure better burn quality.
Does greenfuel offer diesel conversions?0 -

You'd get a better estimate by checking how many miles a full tank gets you.

lpg in diesel is a performance boost mostly I think, not quite the same savings as replacing petrol completely.
Never heard of being able to lower car tax tbh mainly because lpg cars can still run on petrol.
This was the reasoning behind removing the congestion charge benefit also though Im not sure if the blonde dude has reversed that decision now0 -

I think by the time you equate in the conversion costs and the lpg costs it's only about 6-8% saving.0
