I phoned the jobseekes helpline this morning as my last day of work is Friday (tomorrow), they told me they are unable to process claims in advance.
That's nonsense what they told you - claims can be taken in advance:confused:

Oh, how I wish I were stood beside as you made that call. They told you utter rubbish. Call back tomorrow, if they tell you you can;t claim until your work has ceased tell them to go look up reg 13 of the claims and payments regulations then tell them if they don't comply with it you will be writing to your MP.

Phone them on Sat just to check that the phone is not answered then phone on Monday and when they say what day do you want to claim from say Sat and when they ask why you are back dating say because the phone line was closed on Sat and you have phoned at the earliest opp after your job stopped to claim.

Backdating is not required. Should you call on Monday they should ask 'have you contacted us before about this claim' you should reply 'yes, but I was misdirected, I notified my intention to claim on 8/10'

NASA... you are right to say some claims CAN be taken in advance -
However.. I used to work in a JCP contact centre & JSA are unable to be taken until the day 'after' the last day of employment due to the computer software (CMS) - it will not take advanced claims!
That's why the agent on the phone said that - they weren't 'wrong' as such.. that is what the agents are told to say.
Oops!! Should I have posted this??? Some users don't think I shouldn't be offering advice due to my occupation!!!

This is demonstrative of the arrogance of the organisation - to believe they can ride roughshod over the law because of a poor computer system.

Yes that may be, but not the fault of the person at the contact centre who is doing what they are told is the correct procedure
They are not intentionally misleading people :o

They are not told to say that, they are told to book the WFI and send out a clerical claim form. They say that because it cuts down their AHT for the call and makes their stats look better.

Let's be fair, it's only relatively recently they have been told this. And it came as a massive shock to most of them.

How do I know? Because I was instrumental in them being told.
