When should he sign on?

My uncle's been made redundant. It's his last day tomorrow. He gets paid monthly. When should he contact the Job Centre to sign on?

Don't bother going to the job centre they will only get him to phone up to make a new claim might as well do that from his own home where he has a chance of being able to find all the info required.

He needs to phone the day after his last day of work (Thursday) the number is 0800 0 55 66 88 the call will last upto 40mins so have a cup of tea ready. If he calls before 9 he will get straight trough (they open at 8) at the end of the call they will book him an interview at the job centrer within the next few days.

He should call as soon as possible, not necessarily once his employment has ended.

Ideally, he would have called the day he discovered the redundancy was going to happen

Does not make a blind bit of difference claiming in advance in fact it just causes mild confusion, and half the advisers I know would just say call back on the first day of unemployment anyway.

You're meant to be able to claim up to three months in advance arent you?

Or have I got that wrong?

Yes but does it actually help to do this. The system taking the claim does not like the future dates so it has to be fudged clerically, then they have to book the interview at the job centre but the customer will still be in work so can't attend so the customer has to ring some other time to book it.

And alot can change in 3 mths, Its the same when signing off don't do it till the job actually starts the number of people who sign off then discover the job does not exist.

The JSAPS system can handle advance dates in my experience - and with few problems:confused:
