Does not make a blind bit of difference claiming in advance in fact it just causes mild confusion, and half the advisers I know would just say call back on the first day of unemployment anyway.

Of course it does, everything can be set up ready for payment. Flick of a switch as it were and the benefit is in payment

half the advisers you know act incorrectly.

You're meant to be able to claim up to three months in advance arent you?

Or have I got that wrong?

    No, you are quite correct.

He can complete a claim form on-line, and can telephone to book an interview. I suggest that he does these things fairly quickly, to reduce the time he will have to wait while his claim is processed.

The period for which he receives benefit can only begin three working days after the last day for which he is paid.

Don't claim online, as you need to wait 2 days for them to call you back for more details. It's a waste of time.

You might as well call the telephone number the person mentinoned in this thread, as they will take all your details down, and make an appointment for you on the same day.

The questions are easy to answer - all you need to say is either yes or no.

    Call the number ASAP.

When you make a call have the following ready:
    • NI number
    • P45/P60
    • payslips
    • bank details

I've processed claims weeks in advance of the date of entitlement. Its just a matter of getting all the relvevant information in as soon as possible.
  • I wasn't saying it was impossible - just in present circumstances highly unlikely...

I phoned the jobseekes helpline this morning as my last day of work is Friday (tomorrow), they told me they are unable to process claims in advance.

Phone them on Sat just to check that the phone is not answered then phone on Monday and when they say what day do you want to claim from say Sat and when they ask why you are back dating say because the phone line was closed on Sat and you have phoned at the earliest opp after your job stopped to claim.

Thanks MX5, I will definately do that. Aso maybe Saturday could be one of the waiting day's before they start the claim? I haven't signed on for a while, but it used to be that the first 3 day's were waiting days.
