• Hi tc,

defo need to start a spending diary, i think i will use this diary to logg down my spending, hopefully making it public will shame me. Cant belive i spent £180 on nothing, £80 was for hairdressers but even so thats still 100 quid that i could of put to better use. i would feel a whole lot better if i had something to show for it. if i had spent it in topshop for example and had a nice winter coat or some boots (things that i need) i would feel a whole lot better but to have nothing 2 show for it........arrrh.

Debt-free and Proud!
Hi Badpenny,

Just thinking maybe you are giving yourself a bit of a hard time. Giving up smoking, going to the gym and trying to be DFW are all hard things to do...never mind trying to do them all at once. Try not to beat yourself up too much if ou don't suceed in everything all at once.

Why not try and take it one step at a time. What about setting a cash budget, take say £20 out on a Sunday and make it last till the weekend. When it is gone, it's gone. Hopefully that will help with the spending on nothing. And if you don't spend it then save it towards your coat/boots.

xx

• hi katy, i think thats definatly my problem. i have always been an all or nothing type person and HAVE to do everything all at once, do it in excess for a couple of days and then burn myself out and back in the cycle of feeling defeated ect. i have tried giving myself an allowence of £20 per week and managed it for 1 week and then lost controll and everything fell by the wayside. i guess i just lack will power and self displine, i will keep tryin tho and yes i will stop beating myself up and learn to pick my battles IYSWIM. baby steps and i will get there. thanks for your comments.

• quiet day today. dayoff and had a bit of a lie-in. I know its going to be a slowday if i'm still in my pj's when loose women comes on. I have made a chicken cassarole in the slow cooker today, never made it before but it tastes delish. will serve with creamy mash and peas.mmm. so anyway decided that grass could do with a cut as its getting a bit long so decided to get the mower out this afternoon and suprise my oh when he gets home, we have the arrangement that he does all the diy, maintaince ect and i do the cooking cleaning ect. anyway i am a bit pathetic when it comes to anything like that and couldn't manage to attach the boxthing that collects the cuttings, i should also point out that i'm very impatient so couldn't be doing with fiddeling about trying to figure out how to attach it so had to abandon my plans and just spent the afternoon pottering around not doing much (which i love to do) have paid £1 to halifax credit card but apart from that a NSD.

Slow cookers are one of the best inventions ever!

Don't beat yourself up about spending. Take little steps. I found that the best way to cut spending was 1) write down EVERY penny spent, even the packet of polo mints and 2) use cash when you're out and about- if you haven't got it you can't spend it and I've never yet come across a big enough emergency in Tesco's that needs a card. If there's a good enough bargain that's worth going home and getting your card for, it gives you time to think.

• i have been using ponds cold cream moisturiser for 4 days and i have a very annoying wrinkle/line by the side of my mouth. well after my bath tonight i have noticed that it has completly DISAPPERED! I CANT BELIVE It. Chicken cassarole was a success i really must use my slow cooker more often as i love the fact that you get a propper home cooked meal with miminum effort.
I have decided to give myself some short term goals and try to motivate myself to do something small each day towards my goals. i think i will do it on a month to month basis as i like to see results quickly or i loose interest. here are 5 things that i would like to acheive by 1st nov.

1, loose 4lbs. my ultimate goal is to be under 10stone. I currently am 10st13lb so if i manage 4lbs by the end of the month and 5lbs by the end of nov and then 4lbs in december i reckon i could start the new year and already of acheived one of my usual new years resolutions. so by 1st nov my weight goal is to be 10st 9lbs.
2, to go to the gym 8 times by 1st nov.
3, to pay £650 of my debts (my loan repayment is 408 a month it is paying the credit cards that i struggle with) so i need to find an additional 242 per month if i am to reach my snowball debt free date of oct 2013. i reckon if i really keep the focus on what i am spending i can do this, i spent £180 after all last month on nothing.
4, i am going to post on this diary every day to keep me motivated.
5, i cant face quitting smoking yet so i am going to make 10 ciggerettes last me 2 days.

wish me luck!

• !!!! day in work today. popped into M&S food hall on the way home telling myself i would just get milk and bread an ended up spending nearly £8 on stuff i didn't need but wanted. oh well........ on a more positive note i have just paid £1 to halifax and i get paid on FRI so will be able to pay another big lum sum off the debt. when i was lyin in bed last night i realised that if i pay £250 per month of my credit cards a month as well as my loan payment that is over 7 grand a year paid to my debts. (i think) I CAN DO THIS. i am going to start leaving my debit card at home i think that way if i'm tempted i just can't spend. yes this is what i will do......

• Hey Badpenny - wanted to pop into your diary as you are so kindly posting on mine.

Just read through your trail and I too have the same problem with weight loss/ exercise (refer to it as the E word!!). In my household, my hubby is the one that is disciplined, goes to the gym 5 days a week and wears tight tops in the summer. I'm the blob who has a gym membership, doesn't go and wears the baggy stuff during the summer...... However, this changed for me this year..... I went to a seminar that didn't focus on depriving yourself to lose weight, but instead focussed on the way you eat - it's simple and works. PM me if you want details.

Regarding the big "E" word - shall we try and boost each other along while also paying a £1 a day? If you will, I will commit to going for 1 day next week :T Are you game? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
• Hi diva,

yes definatly up for that challange, sometimes just having someone along side you who understands and feels the same as you do is very encouraging. i will pm you re the seminar stuff as i would like to try and change the way i feel about food rather than go on another diet, if it has worked for you i will try it!
