Hubby spent £1 on potatoes today, and about £5 yesterday on some fruit and milk. Got a takeway yesterday as i was at work and kids got it as a treat for getting good reports at Parents Evening! any excuse eh?!

Used up mince from freezer today and made a curry for tonite and chilli con carne for tomorrow - should still have some left over so will freeze or give the kids in toasted sandwiches and cheese for lunch on saturday!

Its amazing how much less i am buying now that I am trying to only buy things I really need. If I don't need it, I'm trying to not go anywhere neaer the shops as I know I'll end up getting all the "bargains" - half of which may go in the bin or disappear into the freezer never to be seen again! Gonna try to have a freezer and store cupboard challenge over next week and half term - although will need to get some chicken at some point!
  • Good morning everyone,

well I am just about to go out for tea and scones with a friend.:D

However before I go, I am being very organised and I am taking out lamb mince to defrost to make shepherds pie for tonights tea. Will pad it out with veg. In the past I would probably forget to defrost the meat and be scrambling around for something to eat or phoning for a carry out meal!!

Hope everyone has a good day.
It takes a long time to eat an elephant and I'm doing it a bite at a time!!!
  • had half a sick household every day this week so not updated throughout but added my tally and spent £48.75 on various bits and bobs and top ups this week

  • Am being reasonably good this week. Have to buy lunch out today as meeting a friend (and weather not good enough to meet in park with sambos). But that, and my scone most coffee breaks this week (very bold, but I am really hungry this week for some reason) come out of my weekly "discretionary" allowance, which also covers coffees out, bus fares, newspapers, any magazine etc. And I am still well within that so far.

We haven't bought any other food this week though (so does that count as NSD's for me?) since Saturday. There's enough milk to see us into tomorrow (proably even Sunday), but we need to buy bread in the morning. Not a large list for the coming week though, so should be a small shop. And I have to go harvesting on the plot tomorrow as well, so that means a potato chorizo bake dinner and probably something involving beans, and some brocolli soup.

Hoping to keep weekly shop to about €60, and that should allow me some "fun" spending at the farmer's market next weekend (and maybe even some freezer space cleared allowing stocking up on cheap meat in the other market while we're there).

  • Have been remote for 4 day's and OH didn't go shopping - yay - result ...but he did take the 2 youngest to a fast food takeaway tea on one night. The fridge still has fruit, some salad and juices left.
I am proud of him as he is usually spendthrift.
I spent $4.00 on drinks for the whole time as it was works catered.I also did not spend any cash on souvenirs like my colleagues and came home with a bag of fruit for the kids.
Tomorrow we are doing the waterfalls before the wet season so a full coolbag with drinks will make it a cheap day with an icecream treat if the kids behave!!
Have got part way through my menu plan since I've got back so I'll get on with that.
My veggies are doing well and are easy to look after as are my melons.

    Afternoon all

Just done last shop of my GC month and have spent £343.87/£350 budget, so still have a little to play with for any little extras, may need small top up for fruit/veg which should be do-able with available budget (she says with hope!) Have never been at this point before in the month with some money left - so going to try really hard not to blow it! Am trying to make a lo-cal veggie curry at the mo for my evening meal. The others are having chicken kiev/breaded chicken tonight. Lost another 2lb this week, so have now lost 1lb short of 2 stone since June this year - had LBM after seeing friends wedding photos!
Have a great weekend everyone, keep safe and well.

I've been MIA for about 10 days because I've been so FRANTIC lately - what with DD's birthday, DH in France and general madness.

Well, DH came back from Normandy with eight tons of food and drink - slightly less than on previous visits as the cost of living has SKYROCKETED in France (at least we've got SOMETHING to be thankful for here).

As I predicted, he came back with wine and beer (of course), sirops and crisps, together with half a ton of brioches and croissants, tins of tomato puree, jars of strawberry jam and bottles of olive oil. He also bought some duck breasts and some anchovies, half a ton of butter, half a ton of cheese, half a ton of garlic sausage and some charcuterie.

Which is great, as there are certain things that I feel I will never have to buy again ever ;) - however, there's not many what you might call meal replacements! OK, we had duck and dauphinoise last night :T but my freezers are full up with bread products and we still have to eat!

So what with that and DD's birthday, I'm still spending like a good 'un and am running a bit ahead of myself this month. DD is off to New York at the end of the month so that should knock prices back a bit. We'll see...
