Hi everyone - another NSD today.;)

Dinner tonight is the usual Friday Fish, HM chips and mushy peas. Pudding is Fudge Tart from the School Thread.;)

Got meals planned for the weekend and shouldn't need to spend anymore money so fingers crossed I won't need to go near any shops until Monday.:o

Looking forward to watching :money: tonight.:D

    Hi everyone

Sorry I have been AWOL for the past two weeks - DD2's wedding last week took up a lot of my attention(!) and this week I have succumbed to a nasty chest infection and have been off sick from work for the past three days. GP said it was probably a virus but gave me a prescription 'in case' I needed it - which I did! Hopefully I am now on the mend. DH had to do the supermarket shop yesterday bless him, and I was a bit worried about letting him out on his own, but he stuck to the list and even phoned me a couple of times to check things. I was very impressed because he spent less than my estimate and I am hopeful that with one more big shop and about £81 left I should be ok this month! We shall see...

DD2 and SIL are coming for the weekend and are in the process of moving jobs and flats so will need lots of support (and food!) Hope everyone else is ok - no chance of me catching up with the posts I have missed sorry!

Hugs to all who need them.

  • Like everyone else, it seems, I've been a bit scarce lately due to life being so busy! Hugs to all those who're not well, and Mrs M, hope your operation gets all sorted out properly the second time! :-)

    Spending this last week:

Sat - 79p for some bananas in local grocers
Tues - £29.26 in Asda, mainly for the things I forgot to get in the big Tesco shop the previous week! (And also lots of chocolate drops because there's are the BEST)
Thurs - £6.34 in Holland & Barrett (most of it on lavendar oil)
Fri - £21.60 on my prescription. Seriously need to get round to getting a yearly paid one!

So my total for the month is up to £305.72 now, which seems horrendous for literally half-way through, but we shouldn't have to spend much more. The freezer is full to bursting and tomorrow I need to find the time to go through it and do an inventory so I can do next week's meal plan. Really shouldn't have to buy much more for the rest of the month though, thank goodness!

I made chicken noodle soup for the first time ever this week and it was YUM. And both DH and DD liked it! Definitely going to be doing that again!

  • Hello :hello:

I hope its not too late for me to take part in the Grocery Challenge for October? DH pay day so it's the start of the month for us IYKWIM?

I lost my job on 1st October and we are needing to be a bit more sensible with the pennies, no more nipping to the shops to spend £10 on stuff we fancy that night and so on.

I reckon [STRIKE]we[/STRIKE] I (who was I kidding with we?!) can feed us both well for £30 p/week by meal planning and sensible buying e.g. offers, checking out Aldi for veg etc... as its about 100yds away from Mr S where I usualy shop!

I guess my monthly amount will be £150 then as I think its a 5 week month for us

Fingers crossed I'm let in :D

    Thank you!

    LG

  • Doing well on GC so far this month, although we went to a wedding last week and had to pay for a hotel (£80) and needed to order contact lenses today(another £80) so I have about £90 to get me through the rest of the month including food and diesel  Going to be interesting...

Dinner tonight was HM leek and potato soup (which was yummy if I say it myself) and ben&jerry's icecream... ok I know its bad but it was on offer in Morrisons at £1.90 a tub so how could i refuse?? :rotfl:

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend :j

    Hi everyone,

Haven't posted for ages, but have been keeping up with every else's news.

Less than a week to go until the end of my Oct GC and I've still got a little bit left in the budget. DH goes away on Sunday (until Friday am) so that will mean I can cut right back and give the children some cheap and cheerful meals whilst he's away. I am doing S/World, so will probably be okay with pasta and jacket potatoes.

Not a good time for DH to be out of the country as DS1's 11+ results are coming on Tuesday and we've already been told he's 'under appeal' courtesy of the Headteacher. Will no doubt be resorting to chocolate and my fave tipple of rum and coke to deal with the stress, if the results on Tuesday aren't good.

Lovely dinner tonight of slow-cooked casserole and dumplings. DD and DS2 were both invited to a friends for tea, so just me, DH and DS1 at our house. Still manage to polish off the lot!

C00P had their own pasta on offer for 50p when I went along earlier, and I also saw an advert for their happy chickens that are reduced. HTH somebody.

    Have a great weekend all.

Tonight we had macaroni cheese for tea. I made a low fat cheese sauce for me (skimmed milk an low fat cheese), and a normal one for DH and DS. DD was at a friends for tea so managed to freeze quite a lot for another meal. I only actually freeze the cheese sauce cos the macaroni tends to go a bit rubbery I find once it's been frozen.

While the oven was on I made a batch of fairy cakes and Twinks hobnobs. :j

Tomorrow it's home made pizzas :T.

I spent more than I really wanted to spend in MrT today despite adding it up as I went around. I went to my friendly gentleman cashier who takes all my coupons and this knocked £3.50 off the bill. :j We now have £56 to last until the 31st which should be do-able fingers crossed.

MRSM Sorry to hear about your op being postponed. Will be thinking of you on 26th.

Spent £7.24 today on cider vinegar for my chutney, a tin of coconut milk, jam pot covers plus Boots own shampoo and conditioner (buy shampoo get conditioner free) which I thought I would alternate with my usual more expensive one rather than give it up altogether. I have now spent £47.65 over the month which leaves me with just £12.35 to last just under 2 weeks. Some creative cooking coming up this weekend!!
