Intriguingly, if you do a "completed item" search for one of these on eBay, they all go for several pounds more than the £27 + carriage that's being sought on the direct sales website. The market can't be wrong?

I'll try to ask someone at BrotherUK tomorrow if the link is legit. The thing I know, there are quite a number of products that they need to get rid of before the ROHS (http://www.rohs.gov.uk/) taking into force on the 1st July, 2006. Most probably this product falls under ROHS products that need to be sold before that date.

Do you mean the entire printer is knackerd? Or just the cartridge? Thanks....

PS....Do you recon these refurb units come with a toner cartridge in them?
Probably come with a cartridge which might be well be one if the starter ones, these give about 1500 pages. The refills give about 2500 pages so after 4 refills the drum is about worn out and may need replacing. These cost as much or more than the printer but after 5 years there may well be other parts worn out.

Has anyone brought from marketworks, can anyone find a review? My google searches bring up so real weird pages with marketworks.com, looks a little dodgy.

I've not bought from them but found this:

I have purchased Canon kit from an outfit called digital river who flog off recon canon kit. The products came from Canon and have a full canon warantee. Digital river just do the credit card handling and the returns etc.. they flog the kit on ebay.

I had the SAME misgivings with digital river and my refurb canon kit. I did a search and looked for press anouncements etc and found several sites saying that there was a deal between the 2.

Found this http://www.marketworks-uk.co.uk/managed_ecommerce.asp and the case study is brother...

Received a reply from the head of logistic down the road at Brother UK telling me that it is a legitimate website. Brother is using a Marketworks to facilitate the transactions between ebay, paypal, courrier and the customers. Buy with confidence!

Mine just arrived today. Perfectly packaged in its Brother box. All manuals and cd's present. Only the usual problem of them not supplying a USB cable, but practically no printer makers ever include the USB cable.

Have to say, if there wasn't a little sticker on the back saying it was refurbished I'd swear it was brand new. It's in mint condition.

Very fast and pretty quiet too for a laser. Print quality is also excellent. Very small too. About the same size as my Stylus CX3600.

To say I'm happy would be an understatement. I'm thrilled with this little bargain.
