    Congratulations!!!!
We got married in the Bahamas almost 4 years ago and I never stopped smiling all day!!

We went on our own for a variety of reasons not least divorced parents and awkwardness like that. And I must warn you that I can see why families are generally at the wedding. I really missed the support of my mum and others and although it was overall best for us to do it 'just the 2 of us' I would do some soul searching as to whether you want family and friends to be there to support you.

On a financial note it cost around £2500 for 2 weeks all inclusive and a 'free' wedding at 'Breezes' in the Bahamas. I think we went with Thompson but it might have been Thomas Cook? Sorry - rubbish memory for details.

The location was on the beach and the photo's are out of this world - stunning beach/sea/sand/sun.

I bought a prom dress as my wedding dress because it looked just like a wedding gown but was incredibly light. My OH wore cream linen pants and a white linen shirt. He looked gorgeous - like a model and was very cool. All the other grooms we spoke to out there wished they hadnt worn suits as they were so uncomfortable in the heat.

The legalities were all included in the package. We had to visit the courthouse prior to our wedding to sign some official doc's and purchase a license. The hotel wedding coordinator arranged for us to go together with 2 other couples who were also getting married that week.

We had a bahamian methodist minister conduct our ceremony and although it was advertised as non religious it was in fact quite Christian in content and he prayed for us too - which we really loved but others might not have been chuffed so best to double check these things as the last thing you want is to be offended in the middle of your ceremony!

I hope your day is as happy as ours was and that your marriage is as fun as ours is! It was a great start to a great partnership - All the best to you both :)

Hi, We got married almost 8 years ago at Rui Merengue, Dominican Republic
Due to family circumstances only the two of us went. We then had a blessing back home in the family church for family & friends.

Needed to produce 'Change of Name Deeds' for both of us - me because I'd taken my stepfathers name and DH because he had chosen to change his first name. Needed to produce document to say we were single and free to marry - but very painless & only sim to having Banns read over here. Needed to be in country 5 days I think before could marry.

Spent an hour sorting out wedding with tour rep - ie did I want music, to arrive on a donkey (no!), video etc etc.

Resort only did 1 wedding a day, and although meal afterwards was in main restaurant - which was buffet style, we were booked in for A la carte & table service restaurant that evening.

The spanish judge was 40 minutes late!! However, we had a wonderful day.

Lazy breakfast, relaxed on beach before marriage, then went to change. DH went off to wait for the judge & produce documents. Then I was collected and taken to the Gazebo - all decorated in flowers of my choice, married, cut the cake, champagne then photos (£60 for 75 photos including negs!). Then day to ourselves.

Was magical - Cost an extra £300 on top of our holiday, dress was from Monsoon and in sale, DH suit was hired.

Getting married is all about the commitment you make to each other, who you have there, and how much it costs all becomes irrelevant. Whatever you decide - enjoy your day!

    FF

NB - Also the wedding is legal under British Law, and the package included the translating our our wedding certificate (from Spanish) into English. Make sure if you do have a foreign wedding and the certificate is not in English that you have it translated!!

    Hiya
We got married at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas and stayed at the Luxor. Just my OH and myself went, wedding service, limo, video, photos and internet showing for the family back home and a week staying at the Luxor was less than £3000. We then had a reception when we got back home at the village hall for friends and family. I'd recommend it to anyone, no stress, cheap, and a brilliant holiday with a wedding thrown in for good measure. Definitely going back one day to renew our vows.
