I have a small cyclonic vacuum cleaner (Aldi) which is 1800 watts but the suction is very poor (I bought it to use on the stairs as the main vacuum is an upright). I cleaned the filters and it worked much better but suction decreased considerably. This means you have to clean both filters every time after use, which is a pain.

Now, the old upright is on it's way out, it is a 1400 (LG cheapie) and the bags keep bursting after only using once!

I need to decide whether or not to go for a bagged or bagless. Would really prefer a 'permanent' bag (where you can get a spare one and just wash them out occasionally).

Any recommendations please? I have carpet, laminate and vinyl so need something that won't tear up the vinyl in the kitchen (like the old one did if you forgot to adjust it).

    Thanks

Is there anyone here who uses a NILFISK vacuum cleaner.
After the Dyson died we've decided we want a quieter vacuum and these actually claim to be low noise.
I've spoken with a vacuum repair man and these were what he regarded as the best build quality but that doesn't necessarily mean they are the best for effective cleaning.

I had a DC01 and loved it! Bought 2 cheaper vacs and they were useless so went back to Dyson. Got a DC04 and didn't like it very much. Good sucktion but forever blocked, build quality poor and awkward to handle - much preferred the 01. when Index went mad and had their 1/2 price sale, after reading peoples comments on here I bought a 1/2 price Henry Hound. It is the best vac I've ever used. You don't really have to lift it much as it follows you around and even when you do its quite light and easy to move. I have a bad back and hubby used to move the vac for me. The turbo brush on Henry is great on pet hair - it really makes a difference though I didn't think it would! And best of all - its got a face!

This is the vacuum cleaner I bought a few months ago, the Electrolux Z4648. Apparently it's an "alternative to the Dyson". It's bagless, cyclonic action with a washable HEPA filter. For £70 it's a bargain. Think it's an older model though, hence the price.

  • Ok, vacuum cleaners, they are those things that we all have our pet likes and dislikes about certain models / brands etc. In my contract cleaning business we use three types of vacuums, Henry - Truvox and Sebo. Henrys we can put in clients offices and they will work for a couple of hours per night and run ok for 12 months then we throw them away. Truvox are much the same however the RV9 is better built and maybe would last six months to a year longer than the Henry. Sebos will just run and run, we have had them in clients offices where they are on continuous for 4 - 6 hrs per day and will work for 6 years or more. If you want to buy a vacuum every year or so then get a henry or equivilent cheapo at £100 or less. If you want excellent suction, quality build and customer service / repairs buy sebo. Dysons don't even enter my thoughts. poor build quality, myths about cyclone suction etc etc. Also i must add re Nilfisc - please please just don't bother, buy sebo everytime.

All I care about is dog hair, I was looking at this for a light weight cleaner for upstairs - save carrying the Dyson up and down, but if its not that good I'll leave it

I'm completely in love with my Henry, it's amazing and bright yellow with a cheery face. If I had to replace it though I would go back to a Vax, those things can cope with sucking up lego brilliantly. Although they don't like Hama beads :(
