What's better than a Dyson?

Options
Does anyone know if there is anything comparable to the Dyson Vacuum. I grudge paying the extra if I am just paying for the Brand.

Anyone with Which subsciption know what they recommend.

Thanks

I bought a VAX bagless vacuum several years ago and it is great.

Miele are a top German make.
Our Dyson died after a couple of years - not impressed!

I recently bought an electrolux Boss bagless upright for £35 in a closing down sale. Well impressed with it. I still have my Electrolux Boss bagged hoover (7 years) and still going strong.

I got a SEBO Automatic(made in Germany but stockists here).

It has filters for asthma or hay fever sufferers and is really easy to remove hair wound around the roller without taking it apart.

I got sick of my dyson clogging up etc.

Be careful with Dysons as a lot of carpet manufacturers don't recommend them due to the fact that they are too powerful and will literally tear your carpet apart over the course of a year or two. (Just look to see how much fluff they tend to pick up - thats carpet!).
I recommend a Karcher vacuum cleaner (yep, them of jet washer fame!), they're very good, pretty cheap and most of them will do wet and dry for the same price as a comparible dry only vac. Plus you can get them easily from B&Q and the like.

We had a DC04 that fell to bits in a couple of years and recently replaced it with the Which magazine best buy the Bosch BUC11700GB.

    see
    http://www.retra.co.uk/Best-Buys.htm
    and
    http://www.consumersearch.com/www/house_and_home/upright_vacuums/reviews.html

It cost us £100 at empire-direct but is now available here
http://www.unbeatable.co.uk/CatalogueItem_11525.html and other places for less than £100.

My view is that the build quality and design are both better than the Dyson although the "wand" could be longer.

And yes, the performance is at least equal to the Dyson but in my view for price/performance the Bosch wins outright.

The Hitachi CV81D also came out well in reviews but we did not look at it ourselves.

    Good luck with the hunting.

Have had 2 Dysons, wasn't impressed by the build quality ( bits broke off both machines, 2nd machine also had to have replacements after a short length of time). Have now got a Miele which I'm very happy with, it cost less than half a Dyson does and does excellent job on pet hairs.
