BT lying?

I recently ordered a BT line which will be activated next week. Since I am both an Orange and 02 customer, I was hoping to take advantage of either of their home BB offers.
I realise to get their official services, you must be in an LLU exchange. When ordering my line, I asked BT about their current BB packages, and after listening to their shockingly bad offers, asked if I was in an LLU exchange, to which I was promptly given a 'No' answer.
I went on https://www.Samknows.com and discovered my area is actually in an LLU exchange (has been for a while).
Were BT lying to me so that I would take up one of their own packages, or is the website not 100% accurate?

I hate to sound harsh, but it's really not up to BT to advise you, they're only interested in selling you their products.
You've done the right thing in checking on samknows, once you know who's available on your exchange the choice is yours, for comparison you could always have a look at uswitch or moneysupermarket for ideas for which is best value etc.0 -
as above - why should BT tell you if your exchange is LLU? Has nothing to do with BT Retail . . .0

BT advisors would not necessarily know that another company has put their equipment in your exchange.0

All companies lie, it's called advertising.
You should check things for yourself. On this occasion you should be able to cancel the contract and take your money somewhere else.0 -
You could consider a seperate broadband service, or maybe a dongle... then you wouldn't be chained to a contract... depends what kind of web speed you needI have enough money to last me the rest of my life, unless I buy something.

Woah, chill guys! I only asked BT because an Orange BB rep told me that only BT would be able to tell me if I was in an LLU exchange, and not Orange themselves (which I thought was quite odd...). I guess he was wrong!
I suppose it's because I didn't have a landline number to give to Orange at the time, but seeing as though my line will be activated tomorrow, I will try Orange/02 tomorrow and supply them my phone number once the line is active.
I signed up for the free line connection offer before it ended because I currently have a mobile broadband dongle with Vodafone, and apart from the crap speed and disconnections that I experience, I also want to be able to use more than one computer on the net without tethering both of them with an ethernet cable (particularly annoying when you have a laptop!). I also need a bigger download limit.
I don't mind signing up for a contract seeing as though I'm tied into an 18 month one with BT.
I couldn't get Virgin, which was extremely annoying as everyone either side of my and opposite is able to take advantage of their services, but my address is not offered any availability. I even tried contacting their (non-existent) technical support 8 times, without any reply.
Anyway, I'm hoping to get 02 or Orange, and if not, Be!Try to imagine nothing ever existed...0 -
if you're down to a choice between orange and O2, on an exchange unbundled by each, then O2 is the sensible choice!Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

But in answering the LLU question with 'No' that would tend to suggest the rep has looked it up. If not, why answer it with a yes or no at all? Just state 'I don't know'. So, assuming the rep HAS looked it up, then the answer IS a lie! So the answer to the question posed in the thread title is yes!Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
BT lied to you just like they lied to me.
A once proud company gone to the dogs0 -
They did indeed. I have signed up to unlimited 20Mb 02 BB for less than a £10/m (first three months three, and £100 quidco which tracked!). I am aware though that there is probably a FUP of 40GB, but my BIL hasn't fallen foul of it yet and he downloads as if the apocalypse is approaching.
TBH though, they have always been a farce as a company, and their 'monopoly' over the telephone lines got to their heads a bit.
Unfortunately, they are a necessary evil for many people who cannot get cable or have a crap mobile internet signal!Try to imagine nothing ever existed...0
