3 points and £60 fine for brake lights

Must say, you have been very unlucky here OP. I was pulled over for no brake light, rear view mirror and no left indicators, whilst racing an astra VXR (thought it was a cheeky boy racer trying to push in, not a copper - couldn't see;) )
Was very apologetic and just got a producer.0 -
Were both of your car's brake lights not working?
If at least one of them was working, then definitely it is really a harsh to impose £60/3 pts.
However, if both lamps were out, then it is quite serious and it has been reported many times that some criminals to it intentionally so that they are rear-ended and them claim from insurance fraudulently [cash for crash scams]. So police takes very dim view if none of your brake lights are working!Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -

No they did not check any thing else, just the stop lights All other lights were perfect but they did not check any thing. I think one of them did not want to write a ticket but the other one over ruled him. One officer wanted to take my license for endorsements, I told him that I want to consult my solicitor, which he did not appreciate.I don't know what to do next, have already sent a mail to IPCA. I have 7 days to pay the fine and get my license endorsed.
Exactly what paperwork were you given? Any chance you could scan & post it here?Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -

It's all very well making judgements about the rights and wrongs of this, but when you're presented with a narrow account of events it's almost impossible to come up with rational responses. Before a vehicle is prohibited , it will have been examined by the officer concerned (who must be a qualified examiner). To simply do it out of pettiness risks the officer being chucked out of the traffic department if a complaint is founded against them. Simply not worth it.
Vaporate - you strike me as having had an unwelcome experience with traffic police
Not me. I did a 3 year degree course in Applied Criminology, as well as reading over 200 books and journals and have become very critical of the police.
Traffic police?, nope. I haven't had the chance to get my licence yet. And I'm not suicidal enough to drive without one

This doesn't sound right.
The FPN should allow you 28 days to pay.
(7 days to give in your licence for endorsing).
Though referring to them as "officer" all the time wouldn't have gone down too well!0 -

I'm thinking the same.
Nowhere does the OP mention receiving any paperwork (as far as I can see) but to insist on a re-mot he/she must have been issued a PG9??Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
I was given 2 bits of papers, one ticket saying that I need to give or take my license to the police station etc.
The other one a Pink Prohibition order sheet saying that I need to get the car fixed and get an MoT test certificate. In the faults section it said Brake lights not functioning.
Quentin, it seemed they stopped mr for some other reason as they were talking on the radio saying 'so it has not expired' I think they were given the wrong info about my tax disc or Insurance. Did not speak to me at all, then they started to write the tickets only then I tried to communicate calling them officers 'is this absolutely necessary'. They did not care about any thing I said any way.

My car tells me when a light fails. Is this not standard?0

So did you have to get a tow from the spot you were caught?0
