I understand that volunteering has similar nightmares for you. However, you are more likely to be able to volunteer on a very few hours a week, which you could gradually cope with, rather than a part time job.

Try an animal sanctuary. Or a charity shop. My MIL is foreign and has found helping in a charity shop has been great when her English wasn't so good, and she had to cope with learning a new culture.

Could you consider attending College? maybe to gain some qualifications in webdesign? if you need support to do this, most colleges can offer a programme of support which could include a person to accompany you to lectures to give moral support.

I also know a number of people who have enjoyed working in the postroom of various large organisations. This includes someone who had an obsessive interest in trains, who wasn't maybe the most social of creatures.

Don't rule out working for big organisations. They can have small teams of caring and understanding individuals within them.

I am less sociable than most, but as you know, it doesn't always make for an easy life. It's important to me that I have a good home to come home to, where I can screen calls if necessary after being out and about, and regain my equilibrium.

  • Hi hun

A friend of mine has had stress/anxiety issues and ended up leaving her job as a result. She's tackling her issues through cognitive behaviour therapy and in the meantime is volunteering in a charity shop that raises funds for animals.

How about you take it one step at a time and see if you can start volunteering somewhere that you can relate to, for example an animal charity shop or sanctuary, for one afternoon per week? It'll get you out and about, will look good on your cv later when you're more ready and if it's a cause you care about may motivate you to try and push yourself to do a little bit each week.

My friend said she's been really well received by the other volunteers and that they were all very understanding - most of them had their own mental health issues they were dealing with!

  • when I just left school, I went to a recruitment agency and did data entry temp jobs. Basically the agency will plonk you on a pc and give you a test to see how quickly you type and you can keep doing it until you pass and then tell you of any placements

You do not have to deal with the public and you can pick and choose whether you want to speak to your co-workers or not ;)

I agree with you there, the hardest part is finding them though! :o

@izzydogsam Yes! An animal sanctuary would be great actually, I think i'd prefer that rather than working in a charity shop relating to animals.

In a way I think i'd prefer volunteering because if I did something wrong, or messed up I wouldn't feel as bad of myself, since I wouldn't be getting paid anyway. Infact when I worked in the photography shop I even felt guilty for taking my pay as I just felt I didn't deserve it.

But at the moment, I really do need the money. I'm in a Silver band with council houses (there are bronze, silver and gold), but we had a meeting with someone from the council, and they basically told us that we are fit and healthy and that we can 'fend for ourselves' (ourselves being myself and my partner).

We have an appointment Tuesday with someone who may be able to help us with a bond for renting a place privately. But I have no idea where we are going to get the rest of the money from. It's starting to get really scary for me now I just need to know that I'm going to have somewhere to live, and I don't want to end up in a hostel, I don't want that to be something that goes down in history on my life.

Wow, bit of a downer for you guys to read here. Sorry about that.
Volunteering is a better idea though, and yeah it would be better to do less hours and working up gradually, but at the moment not being paid isn't an option :(

I have also previously tried promoting my web design and I'm even in the yellow pages but I don't get any response. I have to close my website down before the next payment goes out as I will not be able to afford to keep that going. Need money to make money I guess.

Anyway, this has been kind of good to let out some of my thoughts , thanks again

If you do not mind about being paid, why dont you do an internship? usually lasts 3 months travel and lunch paid. Great for your cv and you might get a full time job out of it. They are usually posted

I did it for london (not sure where you are based) but you can choose your nearest city

    Good luck

Night stocking in a supermarket or generally just stocking up a supermarket during the daytime? Not much socialising there?

cleopatra4485, I never thought about doing an internship, although I just searched my area (cardiff) exactly what you put in the search and no results, typical :(

I also had put my design info up on gumtree before and also looked for jobs regarding design but most need qualifications or were a bit too in depth for me.

I think I could cope with stocking shelves yeah, this is on my profile for the job center which I visit weekly and they never have anything for me. Maybe since it's soon coming to Christmas I maybe in more luck though.
